Nothing and Nowhere Lyrics

A voice moves silent through

the twisted city streets
The eyes from tangled gardens peer
He grins a broken smile

Through shattered teeth
he brings the darkest time of year

And he will save us now
And he will take us underground
Where we'll never be bound by love
Or the nightmares above

The night of dreams when

Things are not as they may seem
Before the day we'll never know
He will take us while we're sleeping
And he will never let us go

And he will save us now
And he will take us underground
And here we'll never be bound by love
Or the nightmares above

We follow the sound,
It's leading us down,
Into the kingdom of under.
We're lost and we're found
We're nothing and nowhere
Forever and ever

Truthfully, as I think about it, this deity may be Death himself. To relieve pain and suffering of the world, he brings people to peace while they sleep, or fall into that "last sleep". And then you're lead to the Kindgom of Under, which is your grave.

I know this is a late comment. However, I wanted to agree with Cole. I have never heard any of the members of TBM state their "beliefs" in such of what they believe religiously (if at all), therefore I'm assuming Cole is correct that perhaps they believe in nothing. When you die it's nothing and nowhere ;)

Just my thoughts... I think sometimes people try too hard to interpret these things as an insanely difficult translation of complex messages when it isn't that 100% of the time.

One of my favorite TBM songs. The line "And he will save us now" made me first think of a jesus-like figure or even a cult leader. But the lyrics suggest something much, much darker. Satan? The Antichrist? This song is definitely open for interpretation.

This song has a significant meaning to me. It reminds me of a certain somebody I'm writing a story on. In the story, a demon comes to this girl..and he basically tells her he will lead her down the "right" path. To me, the chorus lyrics

"And he will save us now, and he will take us underground"

Represents how either the demon in my story will either kill her and release her from the depressions (such as fruitless expeditions in love) the world provides, or he will lead her to Hell, which would make anyone think of Earth much differently.

"We follow the sound, It's leading us down, Into the kingdom of under. We're lost and we're found We're nothing and nowhere Forever and ever"

And to this place the demon may take the girl, may be brought by illusions of a better world, so she follow the "sound" of that. Only when you're dead or you lost in life, but you're remembered and found by name. You're nothing now because you're not living, but you're also nowhere because your soul has left the world.

My story was never meant to be fixed on this song, and so when I heard it, it almost made me cry. It has a sweet melody, and the person may not be a demon, but as Okapiqueen said, some kind of deity, but I think it's more darker than Jesus.

i agree with the Death interpreation. and just to add on what others have already said...

"the darkest time of year" is when you die.

"The night of dreams when Things are not as they may seem Before the day we'll never know" - no one knows what is after death. we can only imagine. that's the essence of this song, and that explains the last lines:

we don't know what death is ["we're lost"] but we know that's where everyone will end up [" and we're found"].

"We're nothing and nowhere / Forever and ever" - my favorite line. the person imagines death as being some timeless void where one goes to no longer exist. like the song, it sounds like a peaceful place, yet at the same time its really dreary and depressing.

i love this song. it's the saddest TBM song i've ever heard, but listening to it fills me with a bittersweet happiness.

I agree with the previous interpretations. This song is about a personification of Death, and how the peaceful nothingness of death is preferable to living and enduring pain. Whatever pain we're in, we can always be saved by Death.
