Shelter Me Lyrics

Shelter me
With mercury vials
Escape is the machine to
Shelter me
With media tablets
We’ll turn today into a-
Dream
More doses
More screens
More vials to

Shelter me
With sweet escape
I'm looking for a place to run to
To hide inside

Silence me
Prescribe me your cancer
If I will disappear
You’ll-
Silence me
I'll welcome the virus
If you can promise this-
Dream
More doses
More screens
More vials to

Don’t bother me with details
Don’t bore me with what’s real
Distraction is all I need
All I need all I need to shelter me

and, it's not "shelter me" it's "shelter me MERCURY"

CRT (cathode ray tube)--that is, non-flat--screens involve the use of mercury, among other horrid chemicals. This song seems quite clearly to be about television, IMO. Do the terms "media tablets" or "more screens" seem to make that case? It's about the BS you are fed on TV (consider how real "reality" TV is) and how we just turn our brains off and watch the horrible sh-t the TV feeds us.

The most obvious literal meaning of the song would be simply the view of a drug addict. Taking all these pills and injecting all the needles is all that's keeping him sane, and he just can't stop himself.

But, this song could possibly have a more spiritual meaning: maybe the drugs he can't get enough of are his sinful desires and wrongful temptations. The person cannot seem to stop himself, "Distraction is all I need, All I need all I need to shelter me." He continues to seek this temporary high, trying to reach a state of happiness, without worrying about how much damage he may be doing to his own body/soul/mind ("Don't bother me with details, Don't bore me with what's real"). As with many drug addicts, he desires some kind of permanent high, some kind of eternal happiness. He is reaching out for something more but he doesn't know what it is, so he just keeps searching for the answer.

I think this song is talking about most people. We are being sheltered from what Truth is through the media (their ideals, politicians, even churches) mostly. And as long as the truth stays silent most everyone will be happy. We can be distracted from it and we won't have to deal. It reminds me a little of Fahrenheit 451 (a book) and 1984, and Brave New World. They do apply to us now.

Personally, I think it's about the pharmeceutical companys prescribing all these pills and crap to "supposedly" make you well, but they just cause even more problems. And just plain ol' kill ya.
