How Low? Lyrics

Well I wake up around 4 or 5
Eat, shower, and get dressed in about an hour's time
Take my vitamins, check my messages, and call around to some friends
Make plans for dinner and drinks sometime after 9:00
Well, I'm definitely going to call it in early tonight
I need to dry out and take some time to clear my mind
Now before you know it, here I am again
Fucking 2:00 in the morning
Standing in a bar with a drink in hand

How low can you go
Before you can't turn around?

Now seriously, this is my last and final time
Well, I'm making some big, big changes in my life
No, you won't catch me down here again
Waiting to score, sweaty money palmed into my hand
What the fuck are you cutting this with anyway?
Because I have got some really big plans
And today's the day I'm putting them into action
But before you know it, here I am again
Fucking 6:00 in the morning
Rolled up dollar bill in my hand

How low can you go
Before you can't turn around?

And I'm sick of feeling like I'm losing my mind
Sick of doing the same things night after night
Sick of self-loathing and self-absorption
Self-destructive narcissism
I'm sick to death of being constantly fucking sick of

I don't know who I can trust
Thought there was us, now there is no one

Well, alcoholism and cocaine addiction.

Yeah, I think that you guys hit the nail on the head. It just seems to be about a guy who's got some drinking (and possibly drug) problems who's just really lookin' for a way out, and the only person who supported him (most likely his lover), is leaving him and now he has to face these things alone.

I hate it when people over-analyze songs, but I couldn't help but notice that the song seems to start out with the feeling of purpose and determination, but as the song goes on, the lyrics reflect that all of his confidence is gone and it seems like all hope is lost.

"I don't know who I can trust. Thought there was us, now there is no one."

Great song. I like the slower version from the album best.

To me this song is about getting older and still leading a lifestyle more destructive than your body and psyche can handle and knowing it. Promising yourself over and over again that "from now on things will change".

So not addiction per say, but rather being so stuck in a rut that the only thing you really have going for you is getting fucked up.

I think this song has refrences to alcohol and drug abuse, but I don't think that's the whole purpose of the song. I think its about events that lead up to that moment.

For example, the beginning of the song talks about his daily routine. Wake up, eat, shower, check his email/messages, etc, and then he probably heads to work (hence, "sometimes after 9"). It's all routine, each and every day. I believe this is what leads up to him being drunk and high all of the time. He is losing himself in his routine, and finds escape through the alcohol and drugs, but then finds out this is also detaching himself farther from himself.

Sorry if that doesn't make sense, but that's just how I can relate to the song right now.

the first lyrics are definately 4 or 5, not 4:05

Its just about him waking up late as hell, his 1st meal is at dinner time with his friends(9:00). Then he tells himself hes going to stay in and not go out, but finds himself with his buddies at the bar looking for coke, "waiting to score sweaty money palmed into my hand". They find it and are cutting it up to snort it,"What the fuck are you cutting this with anyway?". Then he goes to bed at around 6 in the morning with a "rolled up dollar bill in [his] hand". Meaning, he stayed up late getting drunk and doing coke, which you snort with a rolled up dollar bill. He wants to get out of his routine, but cant because all his friends that he knows do the exact same thing, hence the last quote, "Thought there was us, now there is no one." Thats about it, its a pretty straight forward song if you ask me.
