I'm having dreams about you
I wanna scream about you
I'm having dreams about you
I wanna scream about you

everything you have done
You were the girl
Who seemed to own the world
Everything was about you

I took a chance to call you my own
I didn't know a thing about you

thought you could love
What a fool I was

what's going on
I was just singing my song
There's something mad about you

I took it wrong
You like my song
Why couldnt I have you
Crazy dream you done me wrong
You left me long
I couldnt stand to chance without you

you said the love was dead
And in my head
I just couldnt believe it

and on the phone you said
You never knew me at all

thought there was love
What a fool I was

and everything was in hyper-jinx
Just like an old time movie

you don't understand
Can't comprehend

I guess it doesn't really matter

and every dream a nightmare
And nothing really matters

I thought I was Loved
What a fool I was

having dreams about you
Having dreams about you
Having dreams about you
Having dreams about you

She didn't ruin his life. Is it her fault that she didn't feel the same way about him? They were friends in school, and she just didn't think of him that way. But in a way, all this time she's kind of been like an absent muse for him, since every love song he's ever written is about her.

super sad song i dont think this one is about Laurie, but about the other girl Kathie, that was in that band Glass Eye. She and Daneil were sort of a couple one summer and then she dumped him cause he was starting to get really ill. he gave her his demo and she listened to it and invited him to open for Glass Eye

i took it wrong you like my song

and then she says she spend the entire summer reminding him that the were not a couple anymore

and on the phone you said you never knew me at all

thought there was love what a fool i was

In my opinion, this is a beautiful, heart wrenching song. I first heard it by Death Cab, then went back and downloaded more from Daniel Johnston...

This song is about someone who was in love. The relationship has ended. They continue to have dreams about their past love.

When I listen to this song, my eyes are usually wide open throughout the whole thing. The lyrics are so beautiufl, and I can imagine listening to it when I'm really sad, or when I end my relationship. It's like ecstasy. It puts me in a state where I forget where I am, and I dont' live in the normal world anymore.

I really love Daniel's original and the Death Cab cover of this song. They bring two totally different feels to it.

Daniel's original sounds very desperate to me. He breathes heavy like he's on the verge of tears. He sounds very forlorn and alone. It's so sad and it makes you feel for him.

Musically I think it's pretty wistful in a awy. The guitar is twangy and dreamy. The piano is a bit stilted which characteristic of Daniel now. Overall it has a very lazy (not bad lazy) and dreamy quality to it.

The Death Cab For Cutie version is great too. I usually don't like Ben Gibbard's voice but I think it meshes well with Daniel's lyrics. The piano is so steady it's hauntingand I love love love the drums in the DCFC version. The cymbal crashes and offbeat drum rolls are sooo good. The bass part is very powerful at the right times and the strange noise effects they put in take it to a whole other level. Overall, they took a great song and made a wonderfully haunting and beautiful interpretation.

Laurie is the reason for much of his art. as he says in the Devil and Daniel Johnston..."She inspired a thousand songs, and then i knew i was an artist". in a sense, his relationship with her was a good thing.

does anybody know what hyper-jinx could mean? I know it is a name of one of his later bands, "Hyperjinx Tricycle". One of those band members said on their myspace account that it might have to do with the time-space continuum, but i think he might have been kidding. Any ideas?

I cried when I listened to it for the first time and it doesn't happen to me very often. It's hard to ignore this song. Daniel singing it with a breaking voice makes it so powerful, so true... DCFC version is great too, especially the drums, but it does not sound so desperate I think.

Fast Car
Tracy Chapman
"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him. There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.

The Night We Met
Lord Huron
This is a hauntingly beautiful song about introspection, specifically about looking back at a relationship that started bad and ended so poorly, that the narrator wants to go back to the very beginning and tell himself to not even travel down that road. I believe that the relationship started poorly because of the lines: "Take me back to the night we met:When the night was full of terrors: And your eyes were filled with tears: When you had not touched me yet" So, the first night was not a great start, but the narrator pursued the relationship and eventually both overcame the rough start to fall in love with each other: "I had all and then most of you" Like many relationships that turn sour, it was not a quick decline, but a gradual one where the narrator and their partner fall out of love and gradually grow apart "Some and now none of you" Losing someone who was once everything in your world, who you could confide in, tell your secrets to, share all the most intimate parts of your life, to being strangers with that person is probably one of the most painful experiences a person can go through. So Painful, the narrator wants to go back in time and tell himself to not even pursue the relationship. This was the perfect song for "13 Reasons Why"

Cajun Girl
Little Feat
Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

Holiday
Bee Gees
@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday". I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.

Magical
Ed Sheeran
How would you describe the feeling of being in love? For Ed Sheeran, the word is “Magical.” in HIS three-minute album opener, he makes an attempt to capture the beauty and delicacy of true love with words. He describes the magic of it all over a bright Pop song produced by Aaron Dessner.
