Dilly Boys Lyrics

My love wrote the words to the saddest songs
The songs that says that life's too long
And the moon is always blue, just because

I wish you'd sing me those other songs again
The songs that say life's worth the worry and the pain
The sun smiles through the rain, just because
Just because she's the sweetest girl, the sweetest girl in the world

She's my moral guide, oh she does nothing at all
Smokes all of my bones and stares at the wall
Maybe she'll pace the room, howl at the moon
But still she's the sweetest girl
And he's the sweetest girl in the world

And me, I'm just a dilly boy
A fresh flower pressed Piccadilly boy
Hands on hips, pout on lips
Meat, rag-tag like a dilly boy
She's the sweetest girl, the sweetest girl in the world
In China Town, they all la la la la la

Me, I'm just a dilly boy
A fresh flower pressed Piccadilly boy
Hands on hips, pout on lips
Meat, rag-tag like a dilly boy
She's the sweetest girl, the sweetest girl in the world

This song is about Carl being a woman. Obviously! :)

The part about writing the words to the saddest songs alludes to his depression and the line 'he's the sweetest girl in the world' is self explanatory.

The subject matter is derived from Morrissey's Piccadilly Palare. Also, the line "The sweetest girl in the world" is one of two links between this song and "It's a Long Way to Tipperary."

That song contains the lyrics: "It's a long way to Tipperary/ To the sweetest girl I know!/ Goodbye Piccadilly/ Farewell Leicester Square!/ It's a long long way to Tipperary/ But my heart's right there."

I think this song is about when Pete and Carl were male postitutes, well they put in for an add, (in a bid to gain money, when they band was still in the process) and had to take ladies out for dinner e,t,c, however according to Peter in on of his autobiographies, he ended up meeting up with an old man who wanted sex, and Peter tied the old git up, robbed his flat and left him, (apparently), but anyway i think this song is about this moment in their lives, as dilly boys mean male prossies, i think ths quote, "Fresh flower pressed Picaddilly boy Hands on hips, pout on lips Meat rag jack like a dilly boy He's the sweetest girl The sweetest girl in the world"

was about getting ready for the job, as they used to "doll themselves up" for such occasions.
