What Katie Did Lyrics
Shoop shoop, shoop de-lang de-lang
Shoop shoop, shoop de-lang de-lang
Shoop shoop, shoop de-lang de-lang
Shoop shoop, shoop de-lang de-lang
Shoop shoop, shoop de-lang de-lang
Shoop shoop, shoop de-lang de-lang
Shoop shoop, shoop de-lang de-lang
You're a sweet sweet girl.
It's a cruel, cruel world
It's a cruel, cruel world.
Oh hurry up, Mrs Brown
I can feel 'em coming down
and it won't take none too long
The polka dots fill my eye
And I don't know why
Shoop shoop, shoop de-lang de-lang
Shoop shoop, shoop de-lang de-lang
Shoop shoop, shoop de-lang de-lang
You're a sweet, sweet girl
It's a cruel, cruel world
It's a cruel, cruel world
But they hold my life together
You know I never say never
I never say never again
There are polka dots in my eye
And I don't know why
The polka dots fill my eyes
And I don't know why
Say you want
Say you will
Say you won't but don't leave me standing
Say you will, it's up to anyone
That's what they all like to know...
The polka dots fill the sky
And I don't know why

The Libs played around with an old British song called "It Won't Take Very Long". You can see Peter and Carl singing it in the Boys In The Band DVD - on youtube here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CFyRJRgl4rs
Some of the lyrics to that song you might recognize from What Katie Did:
Oh, it won't last very, very long. Oh, it won't last very, very long, Around we went, till I said 'Whoa! We'll have some trouble in a minute, I know, For I've got no buttons on my trousers, and my pins aren't none too strong, Run away, Mrs. Brown, I can feel them coming down, and it wont last very, very long.

She said goodbye...?
Plus, probably wrong, but I always though the plokadots meant that he had thought he was having a good time with this person, but now she's gone it's all sunshine and lollipops. Thinking about it that way, Katie could symbolise drugs, but hey, what doesn't in Libertines songs? That's just what I always though, I'm not claiming it's right or sensible

ok, i'll clear up the polka dots thing, and the "pins" references. i'm an ex heroin user, and what heroin does is immediately constrict your pupils upon injection. this is commonly referred to as being pinned, or having pins. saying "since you said goodbye, polka dots fill my eyes" refers to coming off dope, when your pupils dialate and become large, like polka dots.
@jonnyP out of the 7 or 8 comments I've read, this one works closest to what I ran up from my worn tired but well oiled impulse control gadget, libertines lyrics have my head imagining the unrolling scenes jumbley haphazardly, which do suit , alot of times your first cartoon like image is the precise compared

i love this song to bits :)

A lot of people seem to think this is quite an upbeat and jolly song, but to me it's quite melancholy. The band sound really... I dunno... tired. Know what I mean? Good song though.

'Oh hurry up, Mrs Brown I can feel 'em coming down and it won't take none too long'
I think this bit was hlf-inched from some old music hall song, Chaz n Dave stylee.

this song rules my favourite on the album!

i really love this song

I love this song (and not just because my names Katie!) its so catchy and I walk around singing it.

FUCKING BRILLIANT SONG!!! Babyshambles version is class too. Seriously is there anything, musically, Peter and Carlos can't do!!
