Maybe Katie Lyrics

What's so maybe about
What's so maybe about
What's so maybe about Katie?

What's so maybe about
What's so maybe about
What's so maybe about Katie?

What's the use in hesitating?
Can't you see that Katie's waiting?
Just because her youth is fading
Doesn't mean that she's not worth dating

What's so maybe about
What's so maybe about
What's so maybe about Katie?

What's so maybe about
What's so maybe about
What's so maybe about Katie?

I don't know what the fuss is all about
Just take it slow
It's not like you can't live without her
To and fro
If you've got a shred of doubt then it's not worth it

What's so maybe about
What's so maybe about
What's so maybe about Katie?

What's so maybe about
What's so maybe about
What's so maybe about Katie?

Can't you see her with her arms wide open
She's everything that you've been hoping for
Forever's not so long, stop moping
She's got a daughter and you're just not coping.

Do you know everyone you ever swore you'd love for life
I don't know them anymore
I know their names
I'd recognize them on the street and I don't love them

What's so maybe about
What's so maybe about
What's so maybe about Katie?

What's so maybe about
What's so maybe about
What's so maybe about Katie?

What's so maybe about
What's so maybe about
What's so maybe about Katie?

What's so maybe about
What's so maybe about
What's so maybe about Katie?

This is about someone who is having reservations about starting a relationship with a woman because she has a kid and he's a little worried about that.

He's worried about the fact that if he gets involved with a woman who has a kid it will have to be long term. He's going to have to take responsibility for a kid and become a dad.

He thinks it's not worth trying. Pretty much every line in the song is a counter argument to a reason someone would give why they shouldn't date an older woman with a child:

"Do you know everyone you ever swore you'd love for life I don't know them anymore I know their names I'd recognize them on the street and I don't love them"

It is saying that, sure, this woman MAY have said that she loved someone and may have been ready to settle down with them, but you shouldn't think she is a slut or there is something wrong with her. People break up with each other and move on. That's what Katie has done.

But also, you don't have to think of it as a huge responsibility or a big deal. Just take it slowly, get to know her gradually, and if things work out then the kid shouldn't matter. The song also gives the advice that if you really don't think she is the one for you, then don't bother, but you should at least give it a try.

I think this song is about a friend trying to persuade another friend into going out with this girl, Katie. The middle verse: "I don't know what the fuss is all about Just take it slow It's not like you can't live without her To and fro If you've got a shred of doubt then it's not worth it" This kind of contradicts the rest of the song. Maybe its the guy talking to his friend who's trying to persuade him (?)

It almost seems like Steve and Ed are both giving advice to a third party. Steve's point of view is to go for it with Katie, to take responsibility, and Ed's saying that it's not his problem, and if he doesn't want to go through with it, don't.

I like the Steve and Ed dual approach to the song, which makes it seem like it would be good fodder for some fun onstage banter between the two (sadly, I didn't get to see them on tour for this album, so I don't know).

On one hand, this person is being told to take it slow and if you aren't totally into this chick, don't get involved. On the other hand, he is being told to jump right in. Tell her you'll love her forever. He's told tons of women that he loves them but he doesn't.

Like a little angel and devil on this guy's shoulder.

I've seen this live though and nope, no banter between them in the performances I've been to.

these two parts show that maybe he's in school still and he wants to ask out the girls and he is too nervous too and his friends are talking ti him about it.

Her youth is fading, she's got a daughter, and she's still in high school? Who is she, Jerri Blank?

Steve is trying to convince Ed that Katie would be good for him. Ed is wishy-washy about committing.

My first post never did this before..

Hello everyone. Peace, mirth and much more to you this day and all your future ones. I am Katie and today I told a local radio (weeu) host after hearing the song Christine he played for his wife that I want a song. I said alls I have is ki ki ki katie and some other one about being straight but is really gay. I said there's a bazillion girl name songs about their gloriousness except mine. He said he's got to do a commercial break and will have me a song when he gets back. I thought 🤔 yeah right there is none. Well I guess I'm wrong. Do you know of any? I don't know what the meaning or catalyst behind this song is because I didn't write it nor do I know who did. However it doesn't seem particularly mystical and leaves me with the impression that it's a life lesson to everyone. It makes me think of the movie Shallow Hal and how people mature over time. The things that we thought had great importance when we were 22 may not govern our actions when we're 35 and might even be laughable and thrown on top of the heap of all other not important anymore things when we're 58.

Be well my friend and be good to you! ☮️💙♾️
