Been spending so much time underground
I guess my eyes adjusted
To the lack of light
I got
Covered in darkness
Covered in darkness

I have been waiting
Always waiting for something new
Happiness has always ended
In the blink of an eye
There was no one attending
No one attending

It doesn't really matter where it all began
All I know
I got covered in darkness
Covered in darkness
Ever wonder why I never really truly connect
Although my eyes are open
I can hold your gaze
But I am never connected
Never connected

I am famous for my generosity
They say I am the kindest
But it is easier to
Give than receive love
Give than receive love

It doesn't really matter where it all began
All I know
I was covered in darkness
Covered in darkness

Turning pages over
Run away to nowhere
And it's hard to take control
When your enemy's old and afraid of you
You'll discover that the monster you were running from
Is the monster in you

Better to hold on to love
Better to hold on to love
Change will come

It doesn't really matter where it all began
All I know
I was covered in darkness
Covered in darkness

It doesn't really matter where it all began
'cause all I know
I was lost
I was lost
No, no

It doesn't really matter where it all began no no
All I know
I was lost
I feel lost
Lost
No

It's such a deep and heavy song, clearly about a state of mind in which Darren fell a while ago. If you look at this song's video, it portrays it wonderfully...you get into a state where you find it hard to sleep, too caught up within yourself and your thoughts of regret and loneliness after realizing that things weren't what they seemed to be...but after all you see that the worst enemy -and probably the one that's keeping you down the most- is yourself. Yes, "you discover that the monster you were running from is the monster in you...". And yet, you hope that there will be a light at the end of the tunnel: "Change will come". If you haven't heard the album "The Tension And The Spark", get it and it will take you to a journey from dark to light, in Darren's own words.

Wow, amazing one. Darren's just saying look, something happened to me, I don't know where it all began, but all i know is .. this is how I feel.

Call me crazy, but some lines in this strike me as being told from the viewpoint of God? e.g. - "I am famous for my generosity They say I am the kindest It is easier to give than receive love, give than receive love"

Gabigs, we are soul mates! I love how you are so passionate for Darren, like myself! I love this interpertation, very insightful! A lot of what you said is what I take from the song as well. And as we know that Darren was going through a rough period, it's pretty much self-explanitory. Love it.

hahaha Misseverus, I've been reading all your post here now lol (since you're new, welcome!) I'm so passionate about Darren (something I sadly can't share with anyone here in Argentina). But he's my favourite singer in the world, he touches me like no one else. Thank you, I try to explain my interpretation the best that I can, considering I speak Spanish :p . I like to think that maybe I can convince some people of how great Darren is!!! If you have msn you can join me: ggomezstruzka@yahoo.com.ar, or gdcgs@hotmail.com , so we can keep chatting if you want!! :)

Hehe, the best part, is I added you a while ago! Hehe, not sure you've been on at the same time as me yet though. I can't wait to chat with you on MSN! I love fellow Darren fans, especially hard-core ones like myself! I really respect people who love Darren even when no one around them knows about him! I've forced him upon my friends, so a lot of them like some of his music! And thank-you for the welcome! So nice of you! Wow, and you speak spanish as a first language? You are flawless at english! I'm so impressed!

haha yes, I speak Spanish, and that's the reason why I cannot make my friends here like Darren that much...they don't get what he says and that's a huge barrier. I used to translate his work to say: "look what he's saying here", but it's pointless if they don't hear by themselves the mind-blowing lyrics and his full of heart interpretations. My female friends melt by latin-singers who are so predictable...And my male friends...well, my best friend-turned-into-lover and now former-everything lol (funny but hurting) used to make fun of him so...I couldn't be more alone here!.

Thank you so much for the compliment. English is like a hobby for me, music in general and specially Darren and SG have helped me to improve the language, because it's simply a passion and I wanted to understand what they say :) . Plus, his and their lyrics were really a challenge, because they are clever and not as simple like most of what we hear on the radio.

I didn't see you on msn, these weeks have been crazy for me but I'll be spending more time connected, for sure. Please in case you see me talk to me, cause I've accepted some people that I did not know who they were, so I'm not sure which one of them is you ;o)

"I am famous for my generosity They say I am the kindest It is easier to give than receive love, give than receive love" I see it as someone who thinks that they don't deserve love. So they do all they can for everyone else, but they won't let people be nice to them or they won't treat themselves with love.

"And it's hard to take control When your enemy's old and afraid of you You discover that the monster you were running from Is the monster in you" This made me think of someone who is young and their parents are abusive and then they get older, but they still can't take control because they don't want to hurt their parents who are now afraid of them since the parents don't have so much power any more. And the speaker finds out that even though they thought they were running from all the bad stuff that their parents put on them, they realise that that is now inside of them and they now treat themselves how their parents once treated them like telling themselves they are a loser since their parents once did. And this abuse went on for so long that they got use to it since their "eyes adjusted To the lack of light[or love]" and now they find it hard to connect to people.

Light Up The Sky
Van Halen
The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.

Holiday
Bee Gees
@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday". I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."

No Surprises
Radiohead
Same ideas expressed in Fitter, Happier are expressed in this song. We're told to strive for some sort of ideal life, which includes getting a good job, being kind to everyone, finding a partner, getting married, having a couple kids, living in a quiet neighborhood in a nice big house, etc. But in Fitter, Happier the narrator(?) realizes that it's incredibly robotic to live this life. People are being used by those in power "like a pig in a cage on antibiotics"--being pacified with things like new phones and cool gadgets and houses while being sucked dry. On No Surprises, the narrator is realizing how this life is killing him slowly. In the video, his helmet is slowly filling up with water, drowning him. But he's so complacent with it. This is a good summary of the song. This boring, "perfect" life foisted upon us by some higher powers (not spiritual, but political, economic, etc. politicians and businessmen, perhaps) is not the way to live. But there is seemingly no way out but death. He'd rather die peacefully right now than live in this cage. While our lives are often shielded, we're in our own protective bubbles, or protective helmets like the one Thom wears, if we look a little harder we can see all the corruption, lies, manipulation, etc. that is going on in the world, often run by huge yet nearly invisible organizations, corporations, and 'leaders'. It's a very hopeless song because it reflects real life.

Punchline
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran sings about missing his former partner and learning important life lessons in the process on “Punchline.” This track tells a story of battling to get rid of emotions for a former lover, whom he now realized might not have loved him the same way. He’s now caught between accepting that fact and learning life lessons from it and going back to beg her for another chance.
