"I am famous for my generosity
They say I am the kindest
It is easier to give than receive love, give than receive love"
I see it as someone who thinks that they don't deserve love. So they do all they can for everyone else, but they won't let people be nice to them or they won't treat themselves with love.
"And it's hard to take control
When your enemy's old and afraid of you
You discover that the monster you were running from
Is the monster in you"
This made me think of someone who is young and their parents are abusive and then they get older, but they still can't take control because they don't want to hurt their parents who are now afraid of them since the parents don't have so much power any more. And the speaker finds out that even though they thought they were running from all the bad stuff that their parents put on them, they realise that that is now inside of them and they now treat themselves how their parents once treated them like telling themselves they are a loser since their parents once did. And this abuse went on for so long that they got use to it since their "eyes adjusted To the lack of light[or love]" and now they find it hard to connect to people.
