Handsome Man Lyrics
I know I'm hard to resist
Y'all can come and help me pick the sweetcorn out of this.
It's hard to be humble
When you're so fucking big
Did you ever meet a sexier male chauvinist pig
Tell your babes in arms and OAP's
Come take a piece of me
If you don't see me I don't exist
It's nice to meet you
Now let me go and wash my hands
Cause you just met the world's most handsome man
The world's most handsome man
I'm still the boy next door
That's if you're Lord Litchfield and Roger Moore
If I've gone up in the world
Or is the world gone down on me
I'm the one who put the Brits in celebrity
What's the point in hating me
You can't argue with popularity
Well you could
But you'd be wrong
If you don't need me I don't exist
You voted for me
Now let me see a show of hands
Here before you stands the worlds most handsome man
Though it's not for me
Flip a grin, shake a thing, name a shame
Then I'm out of here
It's not very complicated
I'm just young and overrated
If you don't see me I don't exist
It's nice to meet you
Now let me go and wash my hands
Keeping for your stands
Please don't drop me I'll fall to pieces on you
If you don't need me I don't exist
It's nice to meet you
Now let me see a show of hands
Cause you just met the world's most handsome man
The world's most handsome man
The world's most handsome man
The world's most handsome man
I think it's more Robbie taking the piss here. The media always accuses him of being cocky etc so this song is sorta taking the mickey outta himself.
This song is all Robbie taking the piss! It's not serious at all, it's for Robbie fans to have a good laugh with him. Rob did say that there is a lot of irony when he sings: "It's not very complicated I'm just young and over-rated" If you don't get the joke, you'll just think he's egotistic; but if you do get it, it's a laugh.
This mostly reminds me of snobby celebrities. My favore part is "please don't drop me/I'll fall to pieces..." because it shows how even egomaniac stars need their fans. If any of you have read the Harry Potter books...is this not the most Lockheart-ish song you've ever heard? Haha. This song reminds me of me (that sounds bad...ok..and exaggerated version of me), especially the "you can't argue with popularity/well you could/but you'd be wrong" part....because I always have to be right! Haha. Love this song...it makes me laugh.
Yes, it is a funny song, written in an egolatric state of mind, saying at the same time that without the support of his fans he would become nothing at all. "Now let me go and wash my hands" I think that's such a clever line lol
Robbie himself has been accused of having an ego. I personally see this as an act (something which, to a degree, is confirmed by the "interview" of sorts in the Greatest Hits CD booklet insert), and this song is part'n'parcel of that act.
Everyone acts. Life is a stage and all that. Not everyone acts like a complete cock tho.
I agree that this song is silly and rather pompous, but-- I may be wrong-- I get a feeling of fragility off it as well. The line "If you don't need me I don't exist," sounds more heartfelt than a simple joke song.
i defintely think robbie was trying to show that he really wants acceptance but feels he has to be confident always and not let down his persona. another thing i was thinking was that this was somewhat directed at American Idol/Pop Idol winners: the idea of voting for someone, can't argue with popularity, the old people and young taking a piece, and possibly the young and overrated part.
In this part " If you drop me I'll fall to pieces on you" and especially the part " on you" Robbie is showing his fans that if they didn't keep on helpin him in his popularity thing and celeb life then when he breaks into pieces and fail, that will have some bad effect of them also.
I think he means that he is treated as a product rather than as a person. People listen to his music, and have a certain feeling with that music (happy, sad, etc), but not with him as person...anybody could have sang it and they wouldn't care as long as they have that music. "Please don't drop me I'll fall to pieces on you If you don't see me I don't exist" I think these lines confirm that
