Have You Seen My Love

I don't think it has to do with Alzheimer's (although that's an interesting interpretation) or even "when your girlfriend is mad at you," but being with someone who has changed for the worse over the course of the relationship. Seems like he's lying awake at night, looking at the woman lying next to him, and thinking, "I don't even know who you are anymore." I think the song is trying to convey a much deeper emotion than "don't be mad at me."

Such a well-written song, like so much of BNL's more serious material.

I agree with TooLongAwake. This song breaks my heart because I think of a married couple who have been together so long that monotony, distance and indifference has set in. Everyone changes over time...it's inevitable, but this song portrays a couple who didn't work at nuturing one another's growth and the growth of the relationship itself. They've become so distant that the husband no longer recognizes the girl he married. They no longer share common interests, conversation or connection. Sad song but I love how most of bnl's lyrics exude such raw truth and emotion.

This is about alcoholism where the wife/partner is falling into the alcohol trap this happens slowly until the point arrives where you ask have you seen my love have you seen my little girl Believe me I can see this happening right now to me ☹️

I agree that I think this is about a married couple (or at least two people who have been together for a long time) but she's changed and now he doesn't recognize her anymore and she's not the person he fell in love with so he's trying to cope.

When he says "And I swear that's her face / Did you bury the woman I love / And fall asleep in her space?" that gives me the impression it's not over yet and they're still living together.

I always imagine him lying in bed with her in the morning (with some sort of rocky relationship in the days/weeks prior) and she's still sleeping so he's just lying there in bed looking at her and the photos they have together on the nightstand and wondering what the hell happened.

This is a really sad but beautiful song.

I can just imagine singing this song to my girlfriend/wife when she's angry. Have you seen the woman I fell in love with? Not in a spiteful way, just putting things into perspective.

oh yeah. it completely captures the helplessness of when your girlfriend is angry (not at you) and there's nothing you can do to cheer her up.

I disagree. I think the song is about how spouses deal with significant others with Alzheimer's or other senility-related diseases. How it refers to a distant past together and a reality that is shrouded by some uncontrollable cover.

This song is depressing.

To me, it's about a long-term relationship that has just ended. The girl broke up with the guy because she changed and wasn't happy anymore -- and the guy couldn't change with her. Now, the guy can't stop looking back and dwelling on the way things used to be before the girl changed ("in these faded old photographs, you can see how we smiled").

In fact, he would do anything just to even be her friend again, because they were together so long that she was basically all that he knew. But now, he is left with nothing and the person he knew so well is completely gone from his life (having broke up with him AND having turned into a totally new person at the same time). He feels that he got screwed over (and perhaps he did) by her changing, and his anger becomes evident toward the end of the song ("Did you bury the woman I love and fall asleep in her space?")

I mostly agree with motlehh about this song, except for the fact that I've always thought it was a hopeful sort of song, rather than depressing. A man who has been left by his girlfriend rather recently and hasn't gotten over the shock. He wants her in his life, he wants to be friends, he's "helpless" without her.

However, later on he realizes that perhaps it was for the best....he acknowledges that perhaps his hopes were too high ("dreaming was the first mistake") and states that the woman had changed. He's not completely okay yet, but he's getting there.

This is one of my very favorite BNL songs....the ability they have to take such emotional lyrics and turn them into beautiful, meaningful music is amazing. Other bands would make this material heavy handed and despressing, but BNL always manages to balance the content of their lyrics with the composition of the music.
