Decrescendo Lyrics
Oh I knew, I knew.
And I knew that you just couldn't wait
To push that sharpened dagger in,
And watch the look on my face.
It's all you were searching for,
A picture frame consistent
To being alone.
Yeah, we're content with illusions,
And our arms length smiles.
Did you get what you wanted?
Did you get what you wanted now?
This is all that I'm asking,
It's the love we're forgetting how.
Did you take what you wanted?
Did you get what you wanted from me?
This is all that I'm asking,
This is all that I'm asking.
Have you ever been alone?
Oh, the years that have been erased,
No superficial shelter
could ever replace.
And it's all you were searching for,
Another adequate replacement
to walk through you door.
We're content with illusions,
And our downhill eyes.
Did you get what you wanted?
Did you get what you wanted now?
This is all that I'm asking,
It's the love we're forgetting how.
Did you get what you wanted?
Did you take what you wanted from me?
This is all that I'm asking,
This is all that I'm asking.
Yeah. Have you ever felt what it means to be truly alone?
Stop and think right now. Stop, think right.
Have you ever been alone? Have you ever felt so cold?
Have you ever, have you ever felt
So truly alone? So freezing cold?
So find the fakest elation, I hope it takes you away.
And I've got it all worked out now,
Just a memory, picture frames illusion.
Did you get what you wanted?
Did you get what you wanted now?
This is all that I'm asking,
It's the love we're forgetting how.
Did you get what you wanted?
Did you take what you needed from me?
This is all that I'm asking,
This is all that I'm asking.
Did you get what you wanted? Now.
To push that sharpened dagger in,
And watch the look on my face.
It's all you were searching for,
A picture frame consistent
To being alone.
And our arms length smiles.
Did you get what you wanted now?
This is all that I'm asking,
It's the love we're forgetting how.
Did you take what you wanted?
Did you get what you wanted from me?
This is all that I'm asking,
This is all that I'm asking.
No superficial shelter
could ever replace.
And it's all you were searching for,
Another adequate replacement
to walk through you door.
And our downhill eyes.
Did you get what you wanted now?
This is all that I'm asking,
It's the love we're forgetting how.
Did you get what you wanted?
Did you take what you wanted from me?
This is all that I'm asking,
This is all that I'm asking.
Stop and think right now. Stop, think right.
Have you ever been alone? Have you ever felt so cold?
Have you ever, have you ever felt
So truly alone? So freezing cold?
And I've got it all worked out now,
Just a memory, picture frames illusion.
Did you get what you wanted now?
This is all that I'm asking,
It's the love we're forgetting how.
Did you get what you wanted?
Did you take what you needed from me?
This is all that I'm asking,
This is all that I'm asking.

Matt Embree is as close to god as anyone could be if such a thing even existed. Rx is amazing, lyric wise, music wise, and perfomance wise.
I have only heard The Resignation album, and this is by far my most favorite song on it, along with Prohpetic. Both are chosen on grounds of both lyrics and music.
^ you need to go buy progress.
Um, the last maybe minute or so is my most favorite part ever. As soon as I hear it coming up, I just have to break out and start dancing or something similar to that. God, that part's just amazing.
God, no one ever posts about the meanings anymore. I just have to waste my time everytime I sign on here reading about how EVERY band is great.....even though Rx Bandits actually is. But that's beside the point!
Anybody got a take on the meaning of the song ? I'm especially curious of the meaning of "So find the fakest elation, I hope it takes you away. And I've got it all worked out now, Just a memory, picture frames illusion."
Anyway, this concludes my hypocritical post, in which I offer no meaning myself.
fakest elation = drugs, maybe? i heard that one of the other songs on The Resignation was about drugs. So maybe he's going back to that concept - also with society becoming more dependent on drugs and finding happiness in that.
I've got it all worked out now - self explanatory.
Just a memory, picture frames illusion. - actually, i always thought it was "just a memory - picture-framed illusion." memory, because it's quick and subjective so another thing that we're deluding ourselves. picture-framed illusion .. hmm .. i'm not sure, but that's got me thinking.
Well, I would say it has to do with a break up. The woman leaving him for someone else and him being left alone. She just simply replaced him for someone else and he has no one. He's saying did you take the love and happiness that you wanted before maybe things got rough and she baled on him for something "happier" but it's not really happy because it's just that beginning part of a relationship where everything is happy because you don't really know the other person. Or it could just be that fact that that is what I went through and how I relate to this song.
INSANE LIVE!
ok, I see it as a sort of plea about how society relies on sex so much in a relationship they forget about the whole "loving" each other in a nonphysical sense, which is just as important. That while DId you get what you wanted, did you get what you wanted now" part at least thats my take. I might be seein them live in san fran on like the 24th or something like that. yay
I think the song is about how we bullshit each other left and right. We seem to lie to each other (and even ourselves) with nearly every breath. The times when we are truly the most honest with each other is when we are the angriest, most frustrated, saddest, etc. and in those times we do nothing more than say shitty things to each other. We aren't feeling the love.
I think what he means with the rhetorical "have you ever been alone?" is that we don't consider the potential consequences of our actions. By this I mean that you don't really consider how lonely you might be or could be if you keep up the lying. Along with this he mentions that we're forgetting how to love, which is truly profound when you truly consider what that means. If you can't love anyone anymore, then you will know what it feels like to be "so truly alone, so freezing cold."
Anyway, I ramble so I'll just leave you's with this: in your playlist, follow this song up with Your Pearly Whites by These Arms are Snakes. Decrescendo ends with that badass raging guttural roaring/fret crushing, and somehow leads perfectly into another song that ends in a similar but definitely different way. "You could have licked the lips of god but you chose the pavement" Fair warning: the style is pretty different between the two songs (imagine going from Smash-era Offspring to recent Tool.)
