The times when we are truly the most honest with each other is when we are the angriest, most frustrated, saddest, etc. and in those times we do nothing more than say shitty things to each other. We aren't feeling the love.
I think what he means with the rhetorical "have you ever been alone?" is that we don't consider the potential consequences of our actions. By this I mean that you don't really consider how lonely you might be or could be if you keep up the lying. Along with this he mentions that we're forgetting how to love, which is truly profound when you truly consider what that means. If you can't love anyone anymore, then you will know what it feels like to be "so truly alone, so freezing cold."
