A Masters in Reverse Psychology Lyrics
Take the safety off
Keep shooting at the Devil in the moonlight
Put it all on black
Until your luck comes back
What kind of finish will he send?
These hands made of splinters
Keep knocking back the whiskey sours (x2)
I've got another crust of bread somewhere holed up
Waiting in this
Is this what's left of the house
And toss the rest in the hall
Just coat the walls and strike the cigarette
When you hear them coming
Until the poor little bastards die hand in hand
We'll never forget them when they're gone
Of the little church
With their bruised knees
On the pews
What kind of finish will he send?
From the site:
"A MASTERS IN REVERSE PYSCHOLOGY is about gearing up for war. The townspeople stop their lamenting and prepare for the onslaught. They start to arm themselves, "shooting at the devil in the moonlight". They begin to wait, and much of the theme of the rest of the album focuses around waiting to die. They lay in their basements in wait, drinking themselves to death in fear of the devil. The imagery is about them hiding out, hungry and tired in the wreckage of their homes waiting for the devil- and when he comes, for the first time, they are ready for him. They torch the walls, burn the place down, hoping he'll go up in flames...it doesn't work like they hope so they begin to pray for the dead and dying. The end of the song is about locking up the children in the church, keeping everyone awake praying until their knees bruise from the pews."
This is the best song these guys have.
I really like this song, but I'm in love with I'm Afraid of Who's Afraid of Virginia Wolf, and "Until Morale Improves...."
gota say my favorite song by MBD, awesome imagry and feeling into the part especially
Fill the lamp up with kerosene and toss the rest in the hall Just coat the walls and strike the cigarette When you hear them coming
We'll pray for them and stay with them Till the poor little bastards die hand in hand We'll never forget them when they're gone
true mr sandman
This is the greatest MBD song. the breakdown with the bass drum speeding it up
"fill the lamp up with kerosene and toss the rest in the hall" what a great climax.
Almost 7 years later than the last comment a few albums by MBD and I STILL think this is Adams greatest lyrics...
