Cannonball Lyrics

Wind passes right through my skin as I fall down
this furious speed will only destroy me.
Crippling and devastating momentum,
approaching maximum velocity.

And this is how it's going to be,
the point of it all.
'Cause this is what was meant for me,
recklessly I fall.

Hulking, smashing, I come crashing,
nothing like when I was small.
I am unstoppable,
I am the cannonball.
That feeble coward that you knew,
has undergone an overhaul.
I am unstoppable,
I am the cannonball.

Thirty-two feet per second I increase,
as the exponents will multiply.
I'll never stop to look back behind me
cutting through the bright blue sky.

And this is how it's meant to be,
untethered I will soar.
I'll barrel towards the earth below,
it's what I was made for.

And everyone will say it's just an accident,
like some mishap or a tragedy.
I think that failure has a purpose,
and I don't believe it's chance if I fall.
And I know that if I ever do fall, He will catch me.
And if He ever lets me fall down,
for the good of those who believe Him,
He will make me into a cannonball.

Unblemished,
and faultless.
A burning luminescence.
Unequaled precision,
beyond your scope of vision.

Cannonball.

I think this song is about how even failure is not coincedence or accident. God will use your failures just like He will use your victories. Nothing is too lost to be found by God. If you fail, your failure will be used.

This song is actually based off a poem, also entitled Cannonball, Reese wrote and turned into the song. He read the poem at a solo concert (Reese and his guitar) at Cornerstone in 2002.

hulking smashing i come crashing i think it says that we should be willing to take a fall if God can use it to open a hole in someone.

One very inportant thing everyone must understand is that God does not cause are falure just to make something good out of it, but if we do fall because of are own disloyalty not Gods punishment or wrath toward us then God will pick us up and help us,

The missing part: [And everyone will say it's just an 'accident']

I'm starting to understand this song. I was reading about the judgement of Paul yesterday (especially the part when he's heading to Rome on the sinking ship), and this song fits perfectly. According to Christians, a failure is a means for God to use people, given their faith and determination, for guidance or just to give a testimony.

Can't help but think of someone like Peter in the bible - total failure in the triple denial of Jesus, but weeks later he's filled with the Holy Spirit and preaches one of the great sermons, then leads the church through its period of explosive growth.

Love the final stanza of this song Unblemished - perfect beyond your imagination ...precision beyond your scope of vision - and useful beyond what you were previously
