The Desert Is on Fire Lyrics
I'll leave a trail of fire across this desert
Just to see the desperation in
Your eyes (x2)
You think you've suffered, well you ain't seen shit yet
The pain won't set in for a long, long time
I've fought off angels with my hands behind my back
I've set the heavens all on fire
So sleep in the fallout shelter tonight, one and all
And wrap the children up real tight
And stop the bleeding before it starts
Stop the bleeding before it starts
So sleep in the fallout shelter tonight, one and all
And wrap the children up real tight
And stop the bleeding before it starts
Stop the bleeding before it starts
I'll leave a trail of fire across this desert
Just to see the desperation in
Your eyes
Just to see the desperation in
Your eyes (x2)
The pain won't set in for a long, long time
I've fought off angels with my hands behind my back
I've set the heavens all on fire
And wrap the children up real tight
And stop the bleeding before it starts
Stop the bleeding before it starts
And wrap the children up real tight
And stop the bleeding before it starts
Stop the bleeding before it starts
Just to see the desperation in
Your eyes

From the site:
"THE DESERT IS ON FIRE is about the devil taunting the townspeople that he is going to burn down the desert and their homes. This song is simply about him talking shit to scare them. The townsfolk hole up in the bomb shelters, hoping that they are safe down there until they can strike again."
this band is beyond amazing.
I love MBD's cello work, but in this song , the cello holds everything together so well. One of my favorites.
What I really like is on the very first line the words "desert" and "in your eyes" sound like a train whistle, drawing together an image of a train charging down the tracks, setting the audio scenario. Amazing!
gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous. the cello work IS amazing & the lyrics say so much in so little.
one of the best off of who will survive...
they did this for the first of their encore set at the orpehum last night. it was killer. there are no words to describe how awesome they are.
