Hey there i hope everythings alright
I forgot to call you in the wintertime
Like the waves crash coming right
i've got feelings pouring down against the ceiling
While you try to trace which side i'm on

When the wind blows between us
High above this empty feeling
I don't want to stop
I don't want to stop
When the waves crash beneath us
Down below this empty feeling
I don't want to stop
I don't want to stop

Can we dance like everything's alright
Can we trade the day in for the night
Like a homesick tunneling
I'm not breathing till I leave with you believing
I don't want to trace another song

When the wind blows between us
High above this empty feeling
I don't want to stop
I don't want to stop
When the waves crash beneath us
Down below this empty feeling
I don't want to stop
I don't want to stop

I don't want to stop
I don't want to stop

(repeat chorus)

    Song Meaning

i signed up on this site specifically to get information on the meaning of this song. Glad that their were at least 2 prior postings with thoughts and suggestions. Too bad they were posted about six years ago, but still appreciate both of the comments/suggestions. I too have tried to define some of the song lyrics to get an idea about what they mean, including "like a homesick tunneling" & the lyrics about tracing the side/song. What"s cool but also kind of frustrating about the song for me, is that I have loved it for so long, but don't really understand what it's true meaning is. It makes me reflective and sad to a point, but I also feel like celebrating life and dancing when i hear it. I think both of the previous posts offer interesting perspectives, especially the addiction possibility, I guess at some point someone will just need to try and contact him via social media and straight out ask him.

Standing On The Edge Of Summer
Thursday
In regards to the meaning of this song: Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.” That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.

Dreamwalker
Silent Planet
I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

When We Were Young
Blink-182
This is a sequel to 2001's "Reckless Abandon", and features the band looking back on their clumsy youth fondly.

Head > Heels
Ed Sheeran
“Head > Heels” is a track that aims to capture what it feels like to experience romance that exceeds expectations. Ed Sheeran dedicates his album outro to a lover who has blessed him with a unique experience that he seeks to describe through the song’s nuanced lyrics.

Amazing
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran tells a story of unsuccessfully trying to feel “Amazing.” This track is about the being weighed down by emotional stress despite valiant attempts to find some positivity in the situation. This track was written by Ed Sheeran from the perspective of his friend. From the track, we see this person fall deeper into the negative thoughts and slide further down the path of mental torment with every lyric.
