Long Way Home Lyrics

I'm kicking that stone
Down your street alone
And the walls criticize where I have gone
I'm throwing that stone
Through your open door
And the halls seem to tell me I am wrong

I'm taking the long way home
Where everything's overgrown
Just like the boy
Trying to give it away
I regret tomorrow
I'm taking the long way home
Whatever may come and go
Just like the boy
Trying to give it away
I regret tomorrow more than yesterday

Remember that wall
Where we used to hide
And the world seemed so dark and cold outside
Remember that field
Where we used to kiss
And the rain washed away our secret list

I'm taking the long way home
Where everything's overgrown
Just like the boy
Trying to give it away
I regret tomorrow
I'm taking the long way home
Whatever may come and go
Just like the boy
Trying to give it away
I regret tomorrow more than yesterday

Nobody's home
And I feel lost inside
There's a clock counting down what's left of time
When you're all alone
It's easy to hesitate
Like a girl listening to her heart break

I'm taking the long way home
Where everything's overgrown
Just like the boy
Trying to give it away
I regret tomorrow
I'm taking the long
Taking the long
Taking the long
Taking the long
Taking the long way home
Taking the long way home

I'm taking the long way home
Where everything's overgrown
Just like the boy
Trying to give it away
I regret tomorrow
I'm taking the long way home
Whatever may come and go
Just like the boy
Trying to give it away
I regret tomorrow more than yesterday

Honestly the song reminds me of the "walk of shame". Like when you sleep with someone and the next morning you kind of think it's a bad idea. In this case sounds like she was with an ex, and "im kicking that stone down your street alone and the walls criticize where i have gone." the people wouldn't agree with her actions. So she is "Taking the long way home".

"Just like a boy trying to give it away." Would be the ex boosting about their night together.

"I'm throwing that stone Through your open door And the halls seem to tell me I am wrong" She isn't happy what happened but she went to him so she is at her own fault.'

"Just like a boy trying to give it away"

Is she talking about a boy trying to lose his "virginity"? That's cute.

This song is incredible, musically and lyrically.

The song makes me see life as a whole, and how it moves so quickly from childhood into adulthood. We all want to return to earlier more "innocent" times, but life moves on and eventually ends.

To me this song repressents the lingering emotions that someone stills has after a break-up with the one that they love(d); regardless of the how long ago that may have been. For example, it's been a long day and you just got off of work. Your driving and you pass the place where you shared your first kiss. Those memories, emotions come back to life. You can not pull away just yet, so you keep on driving, thus passing other old haunts. You remenber their smell, their touch and you can't help to be engulf in the bittersweet arua of love. You understand that you never should have broken it off for shallow reasons, thus you regret living more in the future with out him than living in the past with him. You turn into that teenage boy who wishes to move on via losing his virginity, than to stay in this limbo of unhappiness.

wow. i wish i could marry you. that was one of the most beautiful and understandable explanations i have ever heard about anything. ever<3

To me this song has always been about making mistakes but never letting them hold you down, "i'm taking the long way home whatever may come & go", going with your intuition even if you're being held down by other things...

Life shouldn't be looked at always in the past, prepare yourself for what may come, "i regret tomorrow more than yesterday."

"im kicking that stone down your street alone and the walls critisize where i have gone." Kind of like you're doing something helpful for a friend and others dont agree with what you're doing, even the friend/lover doesnt give you the appreciation you deserve maybe.

I feel that this song is speaking about Life in general although the person is using love to express this thought. We are eternally growing, aging, and all of us will (sadly) soon die. We all learn through our experiences and The "Long Way Home" is reminiscing the past experiences as the person passes by all the places where a memory has been created.. Things that could have happened, things that should have happened, and things that did happen, all of this is being said in the song. I don't think the person necessarily feels guilty about any event, but rather so more upset that the moment could not last forever. This would be a great high school graduation song.

"Nobody's home And I feel lost inside There's a clock counting down what's left of time"

Going back to saying things that could have happened, should have happened, and things that did happen, regardless, time is counting down, and we all must keep constantly moving with our lives.

"I regret tomorrow more than yesterday"

I feel that person is wishing that the memories that were created would last forever, but this is not speaking about LOVE specifically, but rather more, just having a good time.

For me, this song is about a person that leaves his hometown and leaves everything behind and now is coming back and is nostalgic about the the one that got away, probably her first love, and all memories comes back. Also, nothing is the same as it was and she regrets how things changed and her decision to leave all that stuff and move on.

I always loved this song for its sad touch. Is like when you come back to your house, where you had the best memories and happy moments and everything is changed. Life is not as you expected to be even if maybe you achieved all you thought would make you happy, and you feel lost adn brokenhearted. It's so realistic unfortunatly :(
