Victoria's Secret Lyrics
The Light escapes her room tonight, every little moment tells her, now
it´s time Opening a new scar, closing the wounds with a knife, no more
crying in the lanterns light?
Leave with the first light, go when you still see the moon
Run for the sunlight, gate is now open for you
Dancing on the path and singing, now you got away
You can reach the goals that you have set from now on, every day
There is no way you would go back now, oh no, those days are past
Life is waiting for the one who loves to live, and it is not a secret?
The Shades of darkness filled her life, In every single corner you can
not turn right. Night could pass for a day, in her lack of faith,
she let it all fade away.
Once more, a cry in the lanterns light?
Lost in the sunlight, leave, you will not see the moon
Walk for the first time, no one has waited for you?
Dancing on the path and singing, now you got away
You can reach the goals that you have set from now on, every day
There is no way you would go back now, oh no, those days are past
Life is waiting for the one who loves to live, and it is not a secret?
Dancing on the path and singing, now you got away
You can reach the goals that you have set from now on, every day
There is no way you would go back now, oh no, those days are past
Life is waiting for the one who loves to live, and it is not a secret?
...Life´s there for the ones who love to live and take it all, for it is free...
Dancing on the path and singing, now you got away
You can reach the goals that you have set from now on, every day
There is no way you would go back now, oh no, those days are past

I'm gonna start off by saying I disagree with the suicide interpretations. I'm thinking its more along the lines a woman who is more or less a slave, to a household(think Cinderella). And one night she makes a run for it, not knowing what is beyond the household that she knew.
Lines like: "There is no way you would go back now, oh no, those days are past" Don't really seem to say she couldn't go back, but more or less, she would not be going back.
The ending chorus phrase "Life is waiting for the one who loves to live, and it is not a secret?" also would denote that that she is one whom loves live, and Life is waiting for her to live it to its fullest, not as some slave(or w.e it may be).
Suicide is valid, I just feel it disagrees with some lines in the song.
I'm a HUGE fan of Sonata Arctica, I have purchased all their known albums to date...and this song stands out, it is very touching in meaning.
It's about a girl who takes things to the extreme because she was bored with her life, which was probably more or less, lonely.
"Leave with the first light, go when you still see the moon. Run for the sunlight, gate is now open for you" - Her last vision in the living world is the beautiful moon outside her window, she dies and sees the light of heaven, which beckons her, the gates of her heaven open.
"Dancing on the path and singing, now you got away" - By killing herself, she feels she took the easy way out of her life.
"You can reach the goals that you have set from now on, every day" - In her "Better place", she can achieve what she could not in life, whenever she wants.
"There is no way you would go back now, oh no, those days are past" - There is no going back to being alive once she has passed on.
"The Shades of darkness filled her life, In every single corner you can not turn right. Night could pass for a day, in her lack of faith, she let it all fade away. Once more, a cry in the lanterns light?" - She felt her life was too hard because she had to actually work to get somewhere, the part about "In Ever Single Corner you can not turn right" basically means "Life isn't going to be easy, you can't have your way all the time." - So in her frustration, she kills herself to get away from it all. She feels she was overly dramatic and ends herself.
I hope I explained it well, I'm somewhat drowsy. :)
Further reinforcing your theory, (kinda hard to make it any more awesome! XD) At the one part, "Opening a new scar, closing the wounds with a knife", it's talking about how she is cutting herself to commit suicide.

For me, this song is a lot like the other songs that Sonata has done (Letter to Dana, Mary Lou)-- a suffering girl who may or may not find her way. This has to be one of my favourite songs by them, it's simply so beautiful. I see it exactly like princess sophie said; an abusive relationship, and the song is telling her that there are good things in life that are within her reach, if she'd only find it within herself to find them. this one part of the repetitions of the chorus sums it up :
Dancing on the path and singing, now you got away You can reach the goals that you have set from now on, every day There is no way you would go back now, oh no, those days are past Life´s there for the ones who love to live and take it all, for it is free.
It's telling her she can be who she wants to be, she can still love and experience the sunlight in its fullest. Accepting her past and loving herself all the same. I don't think it really means anything about suicide as I see it, but more so overcoming your demons and still surviving, and not taking the easy way out.
I think this song is connected to "Metropolis part two Scenes from a memory" by dream theater
friggen loveeeeeeeeee this song... sorry i dont have my own meaning of it. just that it owns all.

Perfectly said MalachiAD.. perfect.
Wow. That's deep. Good job.
Amazing:) That's a good explanation. But I have something else you might give a thought on.
I pictured some princes, locked up in a tower/room for all her life. She is only allow outside at night,so has never seen sunlight. Living her live in the night..Crying over it in the lantern's light. So, she escapes, heads: the chorus. She first is happy about it.
But then she realizes, she know no one, and no one misses her. But (as stated in the chorus) she can not go back). "Lost in the sunlight, leave, you will not see the moon Walk for the first time, no one has waited for you?"
After that I am pretty much blanking. But the point of trying to find another meaning than MalachiaD's is that some points don't fit in the story. First, say so if I am wrong, but Tony writes some pretty Christian based lyrics, and seems quiet strict to some rules of Christianity(Like in 8th Commandment). Now, isn't it so that, a Christian who commits suicide, isn't allowed in heaven? That would seam cross.
And, if the girl took her life to be free in Heaven, why's her secret to live life to the fullest and enjoy it every step? Or is she more of an example? That she stands for the wasting of life, while there is so much lovely to do?
Give me your thoughts.
the suicide and the princess interpretation all make sense to me, but i've always seen it as a girl who flees an abusive relationship. physical or psychological abuse... the kind of relationship where you can't be yourself, you have to ask for permission for everything, etc. and one night, the girl decides to leave, she just escapes, and now she's free, she can live her life the way she wants.
This is the first song I've heard from this band. It's brilliant. I think everyone's got the right idea, but I especially like MalachiAD's take on it. The whole "girl who takes things to the extreme because she was bored with her life, which was probably more or less, lonely" seems like a rather shallow/spoiled girl. It sort of reminds me of that book Invisible Monsters by Chuck Palahniuk. It's about the fashion industry and the main character's a model who does something horrific to herself (although it wasn't suicide) because no matter what she did, she was pretty much bored with her life (I think it was because nobody truly noticed her). Which in turn makes a connection with the Victoria's Secret fashion show, yeah? That probably only made a little sense since it had nothing to with suicide or religion, but I hope it helped.
