Anniversary of an Uninteresting Event Lyrics

No more gold lights... for the queen earth...
To keep you warm... in your kingdoms...

High... on the waves you make for us!
But not since you left have the waves come!

The bar is dead...
And the rockets rain is keeping you wet in your deathbed

So high... on the waves you made for us!
And not since you left have the waves come...
High... on the waves you made for us!
Not since you left have the waves come...
(have the waves come)
To Nadja, Love - Jesus

this entire album seems to be centered around relationships and the troubles that come along with them. also, since the album was rumored to be called 'lovers' for a while i also get the vibe that alot of the songs have to deal with sex. this song, to me, reminds me of a post-coital buzz. kind of like the feels of coming back passionate sex. i felt like somewhat of a pervert because of my interpretation but i think the 'waves' in the song could be tremors of pleasuriable sensations. ("rocket's rain is keeping you wet" ??) also, the french name for an orgasim is called 'el petit mort' which means 'the small death', a name used to describe the monumental feelings of relief when reaching climax so maybe "deathbed" is used to describe the place where the lovers rest after their encounter.

I would like to point out that the title of the song is a reference to the poet Oscar Wilde, who was quoted saying "Most modern calendars mar the sweet simplicity of our lives by reminding us that each day that passes is the anniversary of some perfectly uninteresting event."

Frankly, it doesn't make sense that Chino would use all the metaphor in his other music and then write one song that's as literal as so many people have interpreted it to be. I think it's probably about something besides death; Chino is not so poor a poet as to use the word "deathbed" to mean, literally, a deathbed. Consider the nature of the Oscar Wilde quote in the context of the lyrics; I'd say it's more about dealing with the passing of time and losing passion.

And if much of the interpretations I read on this site were true, just about every single song ever written by Chin is about death/the end of a relationship/sex. And Chino's life probably just isn't that interesting, considering as he's spent the majority of it either touring or in the studio writing music. Ask any professional musician; it's a lot more tedious and boring than people think it is. Chino is no exception (the recent tragedy notwithstanding).

This song caught me in a true way. When i first heard it i had just broken up with a woman who i was with for a long time and thought i was going places with. When it ended i moved on and went out with other women but they didnt seem to add up to the first girl.

This song gives me that feel.

"No more gold lights for the queen earth to keep you warm in your kingdoms High on the waves you make for us" reminds of how she is gone

"But not since you left have the waves come" how things arent the same

"The bar is dead and the rocket's rain is keeping you wet in your deathbed so high on the waves you made for us And not since you left have the waves come... have the waves come... "

No matter how many people or ways you try to fill that void .. the standard or "waves" are too hifgh and no one can compare.

i dont know, mayeb its just my girlfriend talkin through me here (shes envirnomentally inclined) but i see this as mankind turning on mother nature, and in doin so, the waves and gold lights have been depleting, ie. the natural envirnoment and all the beauty of nature is diminishing because we have turned on mother nature, so she has left us to our own devices. maybe not, shrug...

I think "no more gold lights for the queen earth" means that he will no longer see his girl in the candle light because she has left him. Somebody told me that Chino is single again. Is that true? I don't know. If so, I'm sure he'll find another. Anyway, I used to call my ex-fiance my earth because she meant the world to me. I would also call her my queen because ahe looked and felt like one. I think about her whenever I hear this song, I love the Deftones!!! Anyway, "...to keep you warm in your kingdoms" could mean that she would find comfort or warmth within her day-to-day situations or "kingdoms." "High on the waves that you made for us..." could mean that he is "high" or amazed to have been to have been part of a love affair. She probably used to do nice things for him to keep him happy, and when a woman keeps her man happy, the man will usually repond in the same manner. If they do these nice things for each othere over an over, their love will continue to live, hence "the waves you made for us." I believe that not all couples get to experience love. I believe that some couples get together for convieniance, sex, money, or maybe lust, and that only a few relationships are based on love. A cool way to explain the "waves" would be to think of brainwaves, pulse, etc. For example, whenever you are alone, there are very little "waves" traveling through your body. But when the person you love is standing right next to you, the "waves" should be moving throughout yor entire body. "But not since you left have the waves come..." could mean that nobody else can make him feel the way that she did. Nobody compares to her. I think that he says "the bar is dead..." to talk down the idea of going out. Bars are supposed to be a fun place, but believe me when I way that bars can be the shittyest place to be whenever you have a broken heart. I think that "the rockets rain is keeping you wet" is a freaky way of saying that a guys tool or "rocket" is cumming or rainning on her keeping her "wet." Gross. But, I also think he is aware that she is going to venture out and maybe sleep with other people, and this might bother him. It's kind of wierd to admit, but my ex began seeing some guy the same week that she left me, and I could totally see that she was interested in this guy. So all I could think about was when that f#king guy was going to sleep with my ex. I was going f#king crazy. My ex wasn't easy or anything, it's just that I knew that they were going to be involved and sooner or later that f#ker would impress my ex with his money and little rich boy ways. Money usually works on the girls, but F#k it. I live in happiness every now and then, but I can definetly say that not since my ex-fiance left have the waves come. Oh I've had more than my fair share of fun and excitement with the ladies, but I would definetly trade it all for another chance at love. Anyway, this song makes me think of my ex. AMR I miss you.
