Invisible Kid Lyrics

Invisible kid
Never see what he did
Got stuck where he did
Fallen through the grid

Invisible kid
Got a place of his own
Where he'll never be known
Inward he's grown

Invisible kid
Locked away in his brain
From the shame and the pain
World down the drain

Invisible kid
Suspicious of your touch
Don't want no crutch
But it's all too much

I hide inside
I hurt inside
I hide inside, but I'll show you...

I'm OK, just go away
Into distance let me fade
I'm OK, just go away
I'm OK, please don't stray too far

Open your heart
I'm beating right here
Open your mind
I'm being right here
Open your heart
I'm beating right here
Open your mind
I'm being right here, right now

Ooh, what a good boy you are
Out of the way you're kept to yourself
Ooh, can't you see that he's not here
He doesn't want the attention you give
Ooh, unplugging from it all
Invisible kid floats alone in his room
Ooh, what a quiet boy you are
He looks so calm floating 'round and around in himself

It seems it's about a social outcast who's has such a hard time being accepted by his peers and has been teased so much that he starts to be angry with himself for not fitting in and just wants to be alone all the time because he thinks he'll be happier that way. It's pretty straightforeward.

@king nothing2 I would agree with you.

I can relate to the kid in this story a lot. I'm guessing it's about Kirk because guitarists (like myself) are often quiet and somewhat anti-social at times. But we have confidence and can light up a room when we want to... with or without our instruments.

The kid's invisible because no one notices him. He was probably outcasted and has since learned to love the silence, much like an old man would.

"Got stuck where he did" - stunted his personality growth at the age he became invisible, but don't confuse that with maturity

"Inward he's grown" - he knows himself

"Suspicious of your touch" - paranoid because he trusts no one, probably cuz he sees through their lies (not a game player)... I doubt it has to do with child abuse

I don't think this song is about the basic "invisible kid" in terms of being a loner at school, parents not paying attention to him, etc., it's about his thoughts and ideas never surface, and he's "invisible" in that his feelings don't matter to anyone. After that he just says stuff he feels in his brain only, and growing inside unknown to others. The last part I can really compare with, "Ooh, unplugging from it all Invisible kid floats alone in his room Ooh, what a quiet boy you are He looks so calm floating 'round and around in himself' if anyone in my family listened to that line, it would make me extremely paranoid in that they know what goes on inside. Everyone thinks I'm just quiet and agree and accept everything, and I always agree to what people tell me, but in my mind I'm screaming "NO! that's idiotic!" but alas, arguing never helps anything. So after many years of only being deviant in your mind, that simple disagreement that it started out with turns into a schitzophrenic serial killer persona.

possible the song was written about kirk. not too sure but heard that somewhere. mad song

I very well could be about Kirk. It could be about James, Lars, or Kirk. James actually allowed the other two to write lyrics for this album. Being void of a permanent bassist during the recording, however, they did not let Bob Rock write lyrics.
