I don't think this song is about the basic "invisible kid" in terms of being a loner at school, parents not paying attention to him, etc., it's about his thoughts and ideas never surface, and he's "invisible" in that his feelings don't matter to anyone. After that he just says stuff he feels in his brain only, and growing inside unknown to others. The last part I can really compare with,

He looks so calm floating 'round and around in himself'
if anyone in my family listened to that line, it would make me extremely paranoid in that they know what goes on inside. Everyone thinks I'm just quiet and agree and accept everything, and I always agree to what people tell me, but in my mind I'm screaming "NO! that's idiotic!" but alas, arguing never helps anything. So after many years of only being deviant in your mind, that simple disagreement that it started out with turns into a schitzophrenic serial killer persona.
