Fallen Down Lyrics
I've seen this face before
It somehow looks familiar
Tattered and weatherworn
A sad, pathetic creature
And once you stood so strong
Your eyes alight with promise
You vowed to carry on
A heart once beat in your chest
Cut forward to another day
Another time, another place
You're not who you used to be
And I wonder why
CHORUS
I knew you once
When you were young
Before you knew
What you'd become
But that was then
And this is now
You've lost your way
You've fallen down
You can't just walk away
You can't choose to ignore me
I stand in front of you
A stranger stands before me
What happened to the boy
Head filled with aspirations
His dreams within his reach
His life a celebration?
Cut forward to another day
Another time, another place
You're not who you used to be
And I wonder why
(CH)
And now there's nothing left
Your face a pale reflection
With only emptiness
You've lost your life's direction
What happened to the man
Who couldn't be defeated
Who always stood his ground
When lesser men retreated?
Cut forward to another day
Another time, another place
You're not who you used to be
And I wonder why
(CH)
It somehow looks familiar
Tattered and weatherworn
A sad, pathetic creature
Your eyes alight with promise
You vowed to carry on
A heart once beat in your chest
Another time, another place
You're not who you used to be
And I wonder why
I knew you once
When you were young
Before you knew
What you'd become
But that was then
And this is now
You've lost your way
You've fallen down
You can't choose to ignore me
I stand in front of you
A stranger stands before me
Head filled with aspirations
His dreams within his reach
His life a celebration?
Another time, another place
You're not who you used to be
And I wonder why
Your face a pale reflection
With only emptiness
You've lost your life's direction
Who couldn't be defeated
Who always stood his ground
When lesser men retreated?
Another time, another place
You're not who you used to be
And I wonder why

This is one of my favorite songs. Its easy to relate to, which is what makes it so sad. The dreams of our youth have been courrupted. Like when you go into politics thinking you can change things for the better and just end up working for some tobacco lobby. Or if you love something so much you make it your business, soon it just becomes about the money and youve lost the passion. It is a universal tragedy.
It is. Something all who see it should fight against. Our youth look up to the adults in their lives, at least some of them. And until they have passion the youth will continue to concede, resigning themselves to a life of materialism void of a passion or dream. And until the youth change that, we will never have a society abundant with dreams and passion. So that begs the question, how is this problem to be solved?
Once more a23 knows how to touch people...
This reminds me a bit of myself when i think about it, family, friends and so on have always believed i am strong mentally and i have always helped people when their times got rough. Unforunatlly have something happend and im starting to lose controll over myself, never thought i would end up like this yust a few years ago and so did neither of the people i know... Beutiful song...
Losing your way. It happens to most everyone, and it's not so bad, as long as someone or something jolts you back into doing right by everything and yourself.
Harsh, even for Tom, but sugarcoated with fantastic synths, "I knew you once... when you were young... before you knew what you'd become." If you're middle-age or not exactly where you planned to be, it's a sweet wake-up call (Tom really isn't a total dick).
