Lost Wisdom Lyrics
While we may believe
our world - our reality
to be that is - is but one
manifestation of the essence
Other planes lie beyond the reach
of normal sense and common roads
But they are no less real
than what we see or touch or feel
Denied by the blind church
'cause these are not the words of God
- the same God that burnt the
knowing
our world - our reality
to be that is - is but one
manifestation of the essence
of normal sense and common roads
But they are no less real
than what we see or touch or feel
'cause these are not the words of God
- the same God that burnt the
knowing

Christianity trampled over so many ancient cultures. Christianization was rarely a peaceful thing.
I love the last column for its veracity.
Yeah, that was a good moment of Varg's Engrish.
I still love him though
You're getting half the point, silentl, but his own writings on Burzum.org point to a significantly less open-minded approach. Varg has commented in his essays that the last Norse pagan initiates were burnt at the stake, and the last passage is a clear reference to this itself, not simply to paganism as a whole. It doesn't take more than a passing glance to see Varg views Germanic beliefs as the only true ones, all others being inferior in some way or in many ways. Of course, the meaning, to me, transcends this simple reference, dealing more broadly upon the topic of ideological degeneration itself and in praise of older, more heroic beliefs. (one could make this case for many Burzum songs...)
Basically the way I see it, the song is Varg trying to say that there are other beliefs than jsut "your" christian beliefs. Being a guy who feels so strongly on the subject of Christianity overtaking Pagan culture and practises he says "the knowing". Meaning Pagans who actually had the right idea about what the world was like. More or less the song is "think outside the box". There are other beliefs than your own and jsut because they arn't what you believe dosn't make them any less acceptable/right.
