Imellom buskene vi stirret paa de
som minnet om andre tider
og fortalte at haapet var borte
for alltid...

Vi hoerte alvesang og vann som
sildret

Det som en gang var er nu borte
alt blodet...
all lengsel og sorg som hersket
og de foelelser som kunne roeres
er vekk...
for alltid...
vi har aldri levd

    In English:

    WHAT ONCE WAS

We stared through the bushes At the ones who reminded us of another time And it was said that hope was gone Forever...

We heard the elvensong and the trickling water

What once was is now gone All the blood... All that longing and grief that reigned And the feelings we could touch Are gone... Forever...

We are not dead. We were never alive.

If you are familiar with Varg Vikernes's worldview, it should be apparent what this song is about. If not, it refers to his belief that the best days of the Germanic peoples are behind them, and that all the things which made them great have been forgotten and can never be recaptured. This is more or less the whole "concept" of the 'Hvis Lyset Tar Oss' album, of which this track is the first.

Nordic people forgot their roots... and this generates in Varg, a strong feeling of nostalgy, rage and disappointed emptiness...

Considered by many to be the best BM song ever. I think it drags on a bit, and their were better songs on the album of the same name(Det Som En Gang Var). But it's still a great song.

yeah, probably the best BM tune out there. the atmosphere of this son is amazing. I somehow feel that the lyrics are about some supernatural beings, rather then the germanic people. epspecialy the first line and the breakdown.

    My Opinion

Sadly,i do not understand German neither do i write very good English, but when it comes to trying to give an opinion about this amazing album and song, words can sometimes destroys the essence of what Mr.Varg wants to convey. And the message. Det Som Engang Var cannot be interpreted it nor it can be understood completely.Det Som Engang Var is what it is...Rather the album itself, a master piece a monumental archievement.

Son Şansın - Şarkı Sözleri
Hayalperest
This song seemingly tackles the methods of deception those who manipulate others use to get victims to follow their demands, as well as diverting attention away from important issues. They'll also use it as a means to convince people to hate or kill others by pretending acts of terrorism were committed by the enemy when the acts themselves were done by the masters of control to promote discrimination and hate. It also reinforces the idea that these manipulative forces operate in various locations, infiltrating everyday life without detection, and propagate any and everywhere. In general, it highlights the danger of hidden agendas, manipulation, and distraction, serving as a critique of those who exploit chaos and confusion to control and gain power, depicting a cautionary tale against falling into their traps. It encourages us to question the narratives presented to us and remain vigilant against manipulation in various parts of society.

I Can't Go To Sleep
Wu-Tang Clan
This song is written as the perspective of the boys in the street, as a whole, and what path they are going to choose as they get older and grow into men. (This is why the music video takes place in an orphanage.) The seen, and unseen collective suffering is imbedded in the boys’ mind, consciously or subconsciously, and is haunting them. Which path will the boys choose? Issac Hayes is the voice of reason, maybe God, the angel on his shoulder, or the voice of his forefathers from beyond the grave who can see the big picture and are pleading with the boys not to continue the violence and pattern of killing their brothers, but to rise above. The most beautiful song and has so many levels. Racism towards African Americans in America would not exist if everyone sat down and listened to this song and understood the history behind the words. The power, fear, pleading in RZA and Ghostface voices are genuine and powerful. Issac Hayes’ strong voice makes the perfect strong father figure, who is possibly from beyond the grave.
