I can't believe what everyone thinks the song is about. David has addressed it NUMEROUS times in interviews and even on stage a time or two. It is NOT some silly song to his fans. It is Not about suicide. It is a heartfelt expression of his emotional journey following the sudden death of his grandfather in Israel.
I think this song is about surviving suicide.
He talks about letting the metaphorical "Darkness" in his own heart take over and overcoming it and being able to "Breathe on my own again."

If I remember correctly, Dave dedicated this song to his grandfather, i'm not 100% certain, but it does tell about losing someone really important and dear to you and the darkness that comes with it. This analogy is similar to other posts, but thought I would put it out there.
This song has always meant a lot to me, having an aunt of mine commit suicide when I was younger, I think this song could be referencing suicide or someone losing a battle to a long term illness. Something in that realm I believe is what this song speaks of and it's about how the other people in the persons life have to pick up the pieces and move on. Sometimes those people closest to that person are even left to battle their own demons and reevaluate their own existence and reason for continuing on.
This is my favorite song off of "Believe", which by the way, is like, THE BEST cd! I got it the day it came out, and met Disturbed(for the 2nd time) 2 days later....I think this song is like, to the fans, and just to people who hear the music, and he wants them to believe and to understand what he's trying to say, and that they should stay and listen, and not just look away....that's just what I think. Dave Draimen=Talent(and good looking) =)

it's "slowly walk away to breathe again"
amazing song by my favorite metal group. Even though it's not metal, it's the best flowing and relaxing song to come along in a long time.
