Spieluhr Lyrics

Ein kleiner Mensch stirbt nur zum Schein
wollte ganz alleine sein
das kleine Herz stand still für Stunden
so hat man es für tot befunden
es wird verscharrt in nassem Sand
mit einer Spieluhr in der Hand

Der erste Schnee das Grab bedeckt
hat ganz sanft das Kind geweckt
in einer kalten Winternacht
ist das kleine Herz erwacht

Als der Frost ins Kind geflogen
hat es die Spieluhr aufgezogen
eine Melodie im Wind
und aus der Erde singt das Kind

Hoppe hoppe Reiter
und kein Engel steigt herab
mein Herz schlägt nicht mehr weiter
nur der Regen weint am Grab
hoppe hoppe Reiter
eine Melodie im Wind
mein Herz schlägt nicht mehr weiter
und aus der Erde singt das Kind

Der kalte Mond in voller Pracht
h ört die Schreie in der Nacht
und kein Engel steigt herab
nur der Regen weint am Grab

Zwischen harten Eichendielen
wird es mit der Spieluhr spielen
eine Melodie im Wind
und aus der Erde singt das Kind

Hoppe hoppe Reiter
und kein Engel steigt herab
mein Herz schlägt nicht mehr weiter
nur der Regen weint am Grab
hoppe hoppe Reiter
eine Melodie im Wind
mein Herz schlägt nicht mehr weiter
und aus der Erde singt das Kind

Hoppe hoppe Reiter
mein Herz schlägt nicht mehr weiter

Am Totensonntag hörten sie
aus Gottes Acker diese Melodie
da haben sie es ausgebettet
das kleine Herz im Kind gerettet

Hoppe hoppe Reiter
eine Melodie im Wind
mein Herz schlägt nicht mehr weiter
und auf der Erde singt das Kind
hoppe hoppe Reiter
und kein Engel steigt herab
mein Herz schlägt nicht mehr weiter
nur der Regen weint am Grab

You're right with your suggestions, guys. However, since I'm German I tried to analyze the song for a few times. I think its about the national-socialism in german, which was said to be dead after the loss of ww2. But now, that "haben sie es ausgebettet" (they opened the grave) nationalsocialism and racism is a burning issue in germany and again. The "spieluhr" (=timer in this case) underlines the caracter of a ticking bomb, according to the things mentioned before. sry for my bad english, i hope you understood, what i wanted to tell you.

THIS SONG IS MY LIFE! THANK YOU RAMMSTEIN FOR MAKING THIS SONG! I can't describe with words beauty of both, melody and lyrics! That melody alone sends me into another place while I'm listening it! Words ''UND KEIN ENGEL STEIGT HERAB NUR DER REGEN WEINT AM GRAB'' means evrething to me! I made huge tatoo with this words across my whole back! I don't need to say anything more about how much it means to me! This is the part of the song in which Till sings about total loneliness, and I think that ''und kein Engel steigt herab'' part have much to do with atheism, and that is one of the main reasons I made this tatoo. As I like to think other part ''nur der Regen weint am Grab'' is generaly about loneliness of all humans(not just kid in song), and loneliness comes from our ego and selfishness. In another words, for me this part of the song means ''WE ARE BORN ALONE WE DIE ALONE''! or simply ''LIFE'S A BITCH''!.... sad but true...

You're a smart man.... this is the best comment i have ever seen!

this is a very beautiful song, i love rammstein, and this song especially touched me, it is a child who wanted to be by itself, so it pretended to be dead, and the people took it seriously and buried him with his music box. he was alive and woke up on the cold frosty night and listened to his music box, and when they found out the child was pretending, it was too late to revive it:(. i love rammstein's idea to bring the beautiful, illustrious model and daughter of Rhichard Kruspe (guitarist for new rammstein fans) to be duet vocals to till, she sang, "Hoppe hoppe Reiter" and "mein Herz schlägt nicht mehr weiter". that means for non-germans "up-down, up-down horse" and "my heart doesn't beat anymore"

This song is about a German folk tale about a child that gets burried alive with a music box. Then on dead sunday when people gather to the graveyard, hear the musicbox and a "rider" comes to rescue him.

noone takes the child -> in the end it is really dead and "hoppe, hoppe Reiter" is a german song for children

I disagree with your opinion mue91. You cannot prove your interpretation with just two examples, which can easily have other meanings. Freeman has a better interpretation, and there are better "proven" aproaches in the english version of this song. This song has nothing to do with racism, it is just another version of a german tale, underlined by the children song. Try to find more proves from the text mue91; your interpretation "bewegt sich auf sehr dünnem Eis" as to speak in german.

@therealamon: everyone can interpret the song as he likes to, i just told you my version. Since i don't know any tale from my fatherland, which deals with the mentioned aspects, i couldn't think about a meaning like that. Please tell me the name of the tale, if there is a tale like that. Further i don't think that this is a tale, since the lyrics itself, have little meaning in case of treating it as a tale.
