Cloud Connected Lyrics

People like you;
you live in a dream world.
You despise the outside and you fear the next one.

It’s in your dream.
There’s just one question.
Should I kill or should I be left behind?

Sick and tired of all your complaints.
This is the hour, we bring it down.

I’ve come to realize,
with every little glimpse you fade.
I was told that I could fly.
When least expected - cloud connected.

You seem to be so introverted.
How come we fail with all that is given?
You crossed the line. You remember my name.
Time runs backwards as long as you are heading that way.

I’ve come to realize,
with every little glimpse you fade.
I was told that I could fly.
When least expected - cloud connected.

I always felt like this song was a simple send-up of those who either (1) live in the past, (2) try to impose outdated ways on others, or (3) both.

However, as an American citizen, I always pictured the élite of white culture, who cling tremulously to an ever fading past, and tell kids they can do whatever they want if they try hard enough, all the while making sure that they are never threatened in their secure little towers. Thus, achieving success is "least expected," success itself making one "cloud connected".

Yes, I'm aware that I'm reading (listening?) my own prejudices into the lyrics, but fuck it, man. Most of art is left to the interpreter, anyway, and that's how this song comes across to me.

My Interpretation

This song I feel is directed at certain sections of the metal underground, who bitch about In Flames' evolution from the melodic death metal sound, ie, the types who scream 'sellout' at the slightest change in direction.

In every little glimpse, these people fade in the eyes of In Flames because these people are fading into obscurity (living in their dream world) by trying to be 'tr00, kvlt and underground' instead of just being, after all, being kvlt is no way to have a music career that you actually get paid for, whereas In Flames have been 'Cloud Connected' and achieved that goal.

@ac666 I don't know ... pretty shallow by In Flames, if it is

A lot of people, so I notice, think this deals with religions, or even drugs. I don't feel so.

Let's analyze the title "Cloud Connected." Clouds, for the most part, are going to be up in the sky, and far from the earth below. The same way a literal dream is not just the experience of outer, physical phenomena, but something more internal -- even accessing "another world," a higher world.

I admit, some of the parts of this song I do not fully comprehend.

But, I think the chorus is a dead giveaway of a more esoteric meaning: "What I've come to realize, with every little glimpse you fade." Almost as if, we are searching for an understanding to reality, who, what and why we are; why this entire universe is. He feels like, when he catches a glimpse, a taste of this understanding, it merely fades, and he is back into this stupor, a state of darkness and ignorance.

"I was told that I could fly, when least expected, cloud connected." I take this very literal -- the suggestion of an actual ascension beyond the physical realm. Almost, an "Astral" experience. Out of body experience, etc. Accessing higher realms. Similar to Marilyn Manson talking about "getting his wings," the ability to recognize that within each human is his or her "own God." We are divine beings, not made of this gross physical matter, but indeed "cloud connected" to higher dimensions.

The line, "You crossed the line.. you remember my name..." This I feel is a very sacred experience. Perhaps crossing into a higher dimension, and retaining awareness, and there, recalling the "Logos," which is the Word, or archetype which is used as a pattern for all that exists.

"Time runs backwards as we're heading that way." This is a reference to more abstract experiences that might happen in higher realms, where indeed, time may even run backwards.. stop, or cease to exist, etc.

"When least expected, clouded connected," he may have been enlightened when least expecting it. He may have not been meditating, or searching, or really doing anything to provoke the experience -- but it happened! He was told by higher entities that there is much BEYOND.

"Life is but a dream"

My Interpretation

First, whatever the subject is, I think there are multiple narrators. In Trigger I've always assumed the verses are the depressed person and the chorus is God, and here it's more or less the opposite. As for the actual theme, I think it's another song about depression, or after reading the comments I think it could be religious. If it's religious, I think the chorus is a person who is losing faith, the first verse is an outsider, and the final verse is God, or something. I don't know. Anyway, what I can get is the chorus: "I've come to realize Every little glimpse, you fade I was told that I could fly When least expected, cloud connected"

The first line shows they are loosing faith, because they can't find God. The 3rd line shows they were let down with promises from religion. However, the fourth line seems to have bit of a different message, as it seems the suddenly came into contact with God, not while praying, but when they least expected it.

"You crossed the line You remember my name Time runs backwards As long as you are heading that way"

This stanza really only makes sense from God's perspective, specifically with the line "You remember my name". It seems like God is chasticy his followers for remembering him, but not actually living his teachings by going too far, and now they are just bringing themselves away from him. However, the part the confuses me are the references to "we" as I don't see why God would say we.

@Ganondox

Just noticed I confused Trigger with Take This Life.

I agree ac666, I know plenty of people like that and it's pathetic. Who cares if it's not t3h tr00 style that they originally had as long as it still sounds good? I think some people just get too caught up in maintaining their image as hardcore underground metalheads and forget that the whole point is to enjoy the music.

i think its quite clear its a song about the religious.

People like you You live in a dream world You despise the outside And you fear next one!

It's in your dream There's just one question Should I kill? Or should I be left behind?

the religious especially directed at those who believe salvation is through killing your enemy.

Sick and tired Of all your complaints This is the hour We bring it down!

this is about non religious, about bringing down this mid set. and the complaints the religious.

You seem to be So introverted How come we fail With all that is given?

aimed more towards the christian ideas of why things are so wrong when we have been given supposedly so much from christ and the lord.

You crossed the line You remember my name Time runs backwards As we're heading that way!

obviously aiming that the religious who look to past deeds as divinity incarnate and how its going to eventually wipe us out, witch is very common with religious war.

Excellent!
