Schizophrenia Lyrics

A silver-plated numbing gum
And Jesus resting on my thumb
A hard-to-reach malaria
I've got the mood that seems to scare ya

I'm paranoid -- self-destroyed
Believe me Lord I'm sorry
I've got the mood that seems to bury ya
I've got the nightmare called schitzophrenia

CHORUS:
I cry, I cry
And I don't know why
The fever becomes my home
I cry, I cry
And I don't know why
The fever becomes my home
Becomes my home
Becomes my.....

I love it when you're holding me
You have a gentle way of calming
I haven't felt that way since 1993
When my mother held me

I bet you're waiting for a long sob story
Of how I was mistreated again
But no I wasn't built that way
I was strong -- desperately brave
I didn't mean to scare ya

A silver-plated numbing gum And Jesus resting on my thumb A hard-to-reach malaria I've got the mood that seems to scare ya

I think the first two lines are symbolizing the way we see things that aren't there. A hard-to-reach malaria is saying how its very hard to relate to since so few people have Schizophrenia. Since most people don't know anything about Schizophrenia other then the fact they have voices in their heads, it's scary to them since they know nothing about it.

I'm paranoid -- self-destroyed Believe me Lord I'm sorry I've got the mood that seems to bury ya I've got the nightmare called schitzophrenia

Paranoia and self destruction are some of the symptoms of Schizophrenia. The rest of this part is pretty self-explanatory.

CHORUS: I cry, I cry And I don't know why The fever becomes my home I cry, I cry And I don't know why The fever becomes my home Becomes my home Becomes my.....

When you are so used to it that you know nothing different, the disease becomes what you know, or your "home".

I love it when you're holding me You have a gentle way of calming I haven't felt that way since 1993 When my mother held me

Self explanatory.

I bet you're waiting for a long sob story Of how I was mistreated again But no I wasn't built that way I was strong -- desperately brave I didn't mean to scare ya

This is pretty much my favorite part of any song - ever. People assume to have a mental illness such as Schizophrenia that you'll have to have a long story about how you were mistreated your whole life and went through so many traumatizing experiences, but this isn't necessarily true. Sometimes it's totally unexpected. You could grow up being totally normal and happy, having a completely different personality (strong and desperately brave)but all of a sudden Schizophrenia takes over.

amazing song the meaning is pretty much laid out

I actually get a different meaning to this song.

"A silver-plated numbing gum And Jesus resting on my thumb" One of the symptoms of Schizophrenia is seeing things that aren't there to most people.

A hard-to-reach malaria Schizophrenia isn't that common of a disease, making it hard to reach. Malaria is used as a general term meaning disease or condition, much the same way "fever" is used later in the song.

I've got the mood that seems to scare ya The general public has almost no understanding of what Schizophrenia is. People are scared of the unknown. For some reason, people assume that people with schizophrenia are all dangerous.

I'm paranoid -- self-destroyed Paranoia is a common symptom of Schizotypical personality disorders, along with self-destruction. Pretty straightforward here.

Believe me Lord I'm sorry He didn't want this to happen.

I've got the mood that seems to bury ya I've got the nightmare called schizophrenia There's some statistic on the number of people affected by Schizophrenia that die early, due to suicide and other effects of the disease.

I cry, I cry And I don't know why The fever becomes my home He hates it, but it becomes what he's used to. He doesn't hate it any less, but that's the way he knows how to be.

I love it when you're holding me You have a gentle way of calming I haven't felt that way since 1993 When my mother held me Does this stanza need an explanation?

I bet you're waiting for a long sob story Of how I was mistreated again A lot of people with mental disorders attribute them to some form of abuse in childhood, be it bullying, domestic violence, rape, whatever.

But no I wasn't built that way I was strong -- desperately brave He's above blaming his problems on other people.

I didn't mean to scare ya What it says.

I love this song.

I'm pretty positive that 'silver plated numbing gum' is refering to lithium, which is a silver metal and also used in a treatment for bipolar disorder

Cover art for Schizophrenia lyrics by Blue October

this song is very deep. I think its about a boy coming down with this disease and trying to live a normal life with it. he becomes confronted with people feeling sorry for him but he wants to be normal and maintains a strong moral..but deep on the inside this disease is hurting him..very beautiful

Does Justin have schizophrenia? He's mentioned so many mental disorders (schizophrenia, bipolar, panic disorder, post-tramautic stress disorder) that I really don't know. I know, however, he does have some sort of mental affliction. He takes anti-dpressants (maybe something more) but you could take anti-depressants and have any one of those disorders. It depends on what ELSE he's taking. damn...myspace.com/dreamer1016 because I might not check this shit

I know Justin takes paxil for anxiety, and something else to keep away "voices."Either way, im pretty sure he has bi-polar disorder, and some form of schizophrenic behaviour, because once in an interview he mentioned hearing voices, and how now, he takes pills to get away from them.
