Let's Go Crazy Lyrics

Dearly beloved
We are gathered here today
To get through this thing called life

Electric word life
It means forever and that's a mighty long time
But I'm here to tell you
There's something else
The after world

A world of never ending happiness
You can always see the sun, day or night

So when you call up that shrink in Beverly Hills
You know the one, Dr. Everything'll Be Alright
Instead of asking him how much of your time is left
Ask him how much of your mind, baby

'Cause in this life
Things are much harder than in the after world
In this life
You're on your own

And if the elevator tries to bring you down
Go crazy, punch a higher floor

If you don't like the world you're living in
Take a look around you
At least you got friends

You see I called my old lady
For a friendly word
She picked up the phone
Dropped it on the floor
(Ah, ah) is all I heard

Are we gonna let the elevator
Bring us down
Oh, no let's go!

Let's go crazy
Let's get nuts
Let's look for the purple banana
'Til they put us in the truck, let's go!

We're all excited
But we don't know why
Maybe it's 'cause
We're all gonna die

And when we do (When we do)
What's it all for (What's it all for)
You better live now
Before the grim reaper come knocking on your door

Tell me, are we gonna let the elevator bring us down
Oh, no let's go!

Let's go crazy
Let's get nuts
Look for the purple banana
'Til they put us in the truck, let's go!

C'mon baby
Let's get nuts
Yeah
Crazy

Let's go crazy

Are we gonna let the elevator bring us down
Oh, no let's go!
Go crazy

I said let's go crazy (Go crazy)
Let's go, let's go
Go
Let's go

Dr. Everything'll be alright
Will make everything go wrong
Pills and thrills and daffodils will kill
Hang tough children

Please Cum.
Please Cum!
Cum!

Take me away!

This guy who complains about "misspellings" like 4eve should be kicked off this site and obviously has no idea who Prince is.

Prince (as far as I know still) is the youngest artist to gain a contract with RCA (at age 19) while playing ALL of the instruments on about 5 of his first albums.

I'm sorry guy, and what is it that you do??

If Prince wants to change the English language, that's ok with me. Personally, "Let's go Crazy" got me through my freshman year in college. I still love EVERYTHING he does.

(by the way Mr. Nelson, we used to chase you all over Hennepin Avenue and boated by your purple house in Eden Prairie with our tops off, just in case you missed us) 1984 grad. Also, I do want to be your girlfriend. Thanks for all the music.

Did you read his post properly? Yes, Prince effectively invented text speak 15 years and no-one can complain if the printed lyrics are full of 4 U 2 Ur etc, but they're also full of "docter" and "flys" and "beverly hills" which are just plain wrong and things like "alrite" and "de" when no such thing is found in the original lyric sheet.

Actually it's me that didn't read his post properly, yes he was complaining about the original "Princebonics".

So instead I will complain about the original poster's 1st grade spellings and punctuation.

LP, while I am no fan of lazy chat-antics, you clearly have never read the lyrics of a Prince album from the source. Prince DID frequently substitute numbers like '2' and '4' in the place of the words that had the same sound. And this was when the 'net was in its infancy, so this is certainly not a case of lazy typing. The classic example 'I Would Die 4U' should make this abundantly.

I have an elaborate plan to have this song played at my wedding reception, complete with a purple sequined jumpsuited minister & backing band. It will be magnificent.

This song is about wanting to go to heaven when one dies. If they try and take you to hell go crazy and force them to take you.

this song is about the elevator(devil and/or sin) fooling us and bringing us downbefore the coming of christ

It's just all about living...having fun...not really letting anyone pull you down...we're all going to die and we know it so live your life out...GO CRAZY!!

This song is about the return of Jesus Christ (Second Coming). The elevator is satan or evil and it always tries to bring you down, or to hell. "You can always see the sun or (Son) day or night" There is no day or night in heaven because Christ will be the light and will illuminate everything supernaturally.

He advises to "hang tough childern" because "He's coming, He's coming" meaning, Christ is coming back soon so keep the faith in Christ and don't allow the circumstances and events in life drag you to hell.

All this is in the Bible.

Unbelievable... Can't believe he actually died in an elevator. Maybe Prince was psychic...

This song is about a lot of obvious things, including sex.

The purple banana is clearly the dildo. Duh!

And the lyrics aren't:

"He's coming He's coming Coming"

They are:

Please Cum! Please Cum! Cum!

And the following guitar solo finale is the orgasm.

Listen again, people.

I can't believe someone didn't nail this one yet. This song is simply about existentialism. It's about the classic questions: what's the meaning of life and what happens when we die. He also talks about something really important in these parts:

"Instead of asking him how much of your time is left Ask him how much of your mind, baby"

"And if the elevator tries to bring you down Go crazy, punch a higher floor"

The concept here is that this world with a lot of its stresses, evil, anxiety, etc. has a tendency to challenge one's mental resiliency. He's saying that letting this world get you down or even worse causing you to lose your mind would cause you to stop living while you're alive. It reminds me of this quote:

"Death is not the greatest loss in life. The greatest loss is what dies inside us while we live." -Norman Cousins

If we are to believe in an afterlife and we know the physical body doesn't go, we must ask themselves what is left that does go. It's this part that we must take great care of above all else. You can call it your mind, consciousness or soul but Prince is saying the loss of that is the worst thing of all so never let that happen no matter how much life tries to get you down.

Song Meaning

@zifn4b Ain't it crazy that Prince died in an elevator in his estate? It almost implies that Prince's lyrics spoke to his everyday personal life, which included having an elevator in his own home.

@michaelpzo Isn't that crazy at all...more like prophetic... and from my perspective, beyond prophetic. I think his whole life is an example, a prime example of what Christ spoke of, of what Christ said would be built from His example - including designing his own death, all based from Christ's teaching. I think all true believers will do this, design their death, with purpose, and direction. Not suicide... but conscious rejoining/seperation (depending on your perspective) with the divine.

@zifn4b Wow thanks for writing such a great interpretation and the additional quote!!
