Indoor Living Lyrics
outside the sidelines failing
harder than the martyred stars of made for t.v. crime
indoor living in cardboard confines
counts for very little when safe is just a state of mind
i fell off the sidelines long ago
i have no occupation i’m just wasted for the weekend scene
so don’t ask me out don’t make me try
cause i don’t wanna let you i don’t wanna
and i can’t complain if i don’t know how
it’s a sad sad song with no storyline
i fall to sleep in my rented room
it’s not much to talk about
i’ve got so much to talk about
but i don’t wanna let you
i don’t wanna let you down
last call for societal knockdowns
measure my endeavors loosely based on someone else’s song
melodrama and a bottle of wine yeah
here’s to self expression here’s to every one night stand
bring back the days that fell behind
i’m all wasted conversations in the corner of an empty room
so don’t ask me out don’t make me try
cause i don’t wanna let you i don’t wanna
outside the sidelines failing
harder than the martyred stars of made for t.v. crime
so don’t ask me out don’t make me try
cause i’m just gonna let you i’m just gonna let you down
harder than the martyred stars of made for t.v. crime
indoor living in cardboard confines

I think this song is about his battle with depression, "indoor living" itself is when he cant face being with people, he feels safer when he is alone. "so don’t ask me out don’t make me try cause i don’t wanna let you down" he cant face going out and being with people because having depression is stopping him from being able to be himself and live his life as he would normally and feels that he will let people down who are close to him. He stays indoors because he wants to protects himself from othwers, and protect others from being let down by him.
Story of my life. Feeling really low self confidence about relationships, and wanting to avoid them for fear of disappointment. Thinking you're going to be a huge let-down for anyone who might be interested.
Cheer up, emo kid.
god i'm so in love with this song i'm having a mcs dance party [by myself] and i just fell back in love with it
Okay I just saw these guys last night with the All American Rejects... they were so freakin crazy and amazing! Motion City Soundtrack is gonna be HUGE and they are astounding live... this song gives me goosebumps. the good kind.
outside the sidelines failing harder than the martyred stars of made for t.v. crime... priceless line.
i think this song can be directed to a person that you might want to impress, just wanting to show that you made something of yourself... oh, i am seeing them two weeks from now on that same tour.
i think its basically about him just giving up, he doesnt want to let them down so he doesnt see a point in trying. idk something like that anyways...
I know this probably isn't what the song is about but to me this song makes me think of being lonely.
with this song i get the feeling he's very discontent with his life, like it's going nowhere and there's nothing good enough to talk about in it. like in many of the mcs songs, i think this song is about how he puts up a front to hide the unhappiness he has with his life - "it’s not much to talk about i’ve got so much to talk about" but the next lines - "but i don’t wanna let you i don’t wanna let you down" - i think means he's worried that one day people will see through his happy front and they'll be disappointed with what he actually is, so he doesnt want to let any one get too close. i'm very likely to be wrong but i stil think this is a very deep song, i love it!
"Indoor Living" is the name of a CD by Superchunk that Justin likes (as he said in an interview: http://www50.brinkster.com/boogienoodle/Band/intIslington.html)
I love this song. Its seems like he is just gonna give in and not try....so don’t ask me out don’t make me try cause i’m just gonna let you i’m just gonna let you down . im not really sure. one of my favorite MCS songs though
