White ladder
Water and wine
Forever
Crying oh time
Don't wanna
Feel tonight

There's no rhyme or reason to love
This sweet love

White river
Thunder and war
How many
Time, oh no
Don't wanna
Feel no more

There's no rhyme or reason to love
This sweet, sweet love

To the night another body
To the night another name
To the night another Valentine
Burning flame

To the night another body
To the night another name
To the night another Valentine
A burning flame

Tall order
Tremble inside
Forever
Crying oh man, yeah, yeah, yeah
Don't wanna
Feel tonight

There's no rhyme or reason to love
This sweet, sweet love

To the night another body
To the night another name
To the night another Valentine
Burning flame

To the night another body
To the night another name
To the night another Valentine
A burning flame

To the night another body
To the night another name
To the night another Valentine
Burning flame

White ladder
Water and wine
Don't wanna feel tonight

White Ladder comes from Dylan's A Hard Rain's a-Gonna Fall- I saw a white ladder all covered with water.. the rest of the song doesn't mean too much. You figure it out.

Okay, so what exactly did Dylan mean? I think this song represents someone who is pretty f**ked up on substances. David Gray has made no big secret of his involvement with such ("Betty Ford, won't you be my valentine?"). "Don't wanna feel tonight?" Most of us are familiar with the perfect solution to that problem. White ladder could be cocaine. I am not condemning Gray here. He simply has a great way of putting feelings into songs. This one is about forgetting.

These lyrics are wrong. The correct lyrics are as follows:

White ladder Water and wine Forever crying Oh time Don't wanna fail tonight There's no rhyme or reason to love This sweet love

White river Thunder and war How many time Oh no Don't wanna fail no more Ther's no rhyme or reason to love This sweet, sweet love

To the night another body To the night another name To the night another valentine A burning flame To the night another body To the night another name To the night another valentine A burning flame

Tall order Tremble inside Forever crying Oh my Yeah Yeah Yeah Dont wanna fail tonight There's no rhyme or reason to love This sweet, sweet love

To the night another body To the night another name To the night another valentine A burning flame To the night another body To the night another name To the night another valentine A burning flame To the night another body To the night another name To the night another valentine A burning flame

White ladder Water and wine Don't wanna fail tonight

Bored of life as it seems (to the night...to the night...to the night...) also the "I,m bored"-way of singing....the best is "There's no rhyme or reason to life... This sweet life" both sarcastic and ironic. nice song

All possibilities I'm sure. However, David said himself that the lyrics to this song are merely random ramblings that rhymed and fit the pre-written song. As for the term "White Ladder".... I highly doubt it refers to cocaine. True, it was a Dylan lyric, but in the Album "Sell, Sell, Sell", Gray used it as merely a reference to a person's spine. As far as for it's deeper meanings, Gray has said that, to him, it was, like the lyrics to the song, a pretty little phrase that is far too often over-analyzed and honestly has little meaning.

That seems to me to be fairly insulting to his listeners, but then maybe songwriters write about nothing all the time. Nonsense worth listening to. I am disappointed.

Lyrics drummed up to fit with a pre written song? The music is too simplistic for this to be true. This song is about a string of one nighters.

To the night another body To the night another name To the night another valentine ..... White ladder Water and wine Don't wanna feel tonight

Is that a Rolling Stones sample at the beginning?

theres a lot of biblical symbolism in this song..first the white ladder is the tree of life..found in the bible or jacobs ladder..its spiritual..and the ladder is found on the mountaintop of God..the ladder has twelve rungs. each denoting a different aspect of self. each teaches contrast of truth found in life....water (jesus) and wine(Holy Spirit). mankind lives in darkness..ie the night. another body, another name, another valentine and last the burning flame...thats the body dening the loves the world has formerly to offer the new spirit while traveling up the ladder..really its the spirit passing through the flaming sword found when going back into "paradise"...most of davids songs are littered with these symbols.. another thought on the white ladder..try thinking of the "shaft of light" that traveled out of the jewish tabernacle into heaven.. when you think of the burning flame..well your spirit is inside of it. wether your in pain or your a part of the flame. (climbing "up" the flame). all christians fight this battle of spirit versus flesh..this is daves statement..kinda like "babylon"

Both as a standalone and as part of the DSOTS album, you can take this lyric as read. As a matter of public record, Jourgensen's drug intake was legendary even in the 1980s. By the late 90s, in his own words, he was grappling with massive addiction issues and had lost almost everything: friends, spouse, money and had nearly died more than once. "Dark Side of the Spoon" is a both funny & sad title for an album made by a musical genius who was losing the plot; and this song is a message to his fans & friends saying he knows it. It's painful to listen to so I'm glad the "Keith Richards of industrial metals" wised up and cleaned up. Well done sir.

Fortnight
Taylor Swift
The song 'Fortnight' by Taylor Swift and Post Malone tells a story about strong feelings, complicated relationships, and secret wishes. It talks about love, betrayal, and wanting someone who doesn't feel the same. The word 'fortnight' shows short-lived happiness and guilty pleasures, leading to sadness. It shows how messy relationships can be and the results of hiding emotions. “I was supposed to be sent away / But they forgot to come and get me,” she kickstarts the song in the first verse with lines suggesting an admission to a hospital for people with mental illnesses. She goes in the verse admitting her lover is the reason why she is like this. In the chorus, she sings about their time in love and reflects on how he has now settled with someone else. “I took the miracle move-on drug, the effects were temporary / And I love you, it’s ruining my life,” on the second verse she details her struggles to forget about him and the negative effects of her failure. “Thought of callin’ ya, but you won’t pick up / ‘Nother fortnight lost in America,” Post Malone sings in the outro.

In regards to the meaning of this song: Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.” That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.

Cajun Girl
Little Feat
Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

Amazing
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran tells a story of unsuccessfully trying to feel “Amazing.” This track is about the being weighed down by emotional stress despite valiant attempts to find some positivity in the situation. This track was written by Ed Sheeran from the perspective of his friend. From the track, we see this person fall deeper into the negative thoughts and slide further down the path of mental torment with every lyric.
