Sunday Morning Lyrics
(One, two, three, four)
Sappy pathetic little me
That was the girl I used to be
You had me on my knees
I'd trade you places any day
I'd never thought you could be that way
But you looked like me on Sunday
Well you came in with the breeze
On Sunday morning
You sure have changed since yesterday
Without any warning
I thought I knew you (whoa)
I thought I knew you (whoa)
I thought I knew you well, so well
You're trying my shoes on for a change
They look so good but fit so strange
Out of fashion, so I can complain
Well you came in with the breeze
On Sunday morning
You sure have changed since yesterday
Without any warning
I thought I knew you (whoa)
I thought I knew you (whoa)
I thought I knew you well, so well
I know who I am, but who are you?
You're not looking like you used to
You're on the other side of the mirror
So nothing's looking quite as clear
Thank you for turning on the lights
Thank you, now you're the parasite
I didn't think you had it in you
And now you're looking like I used to!
You came in with the breeze
On Sunday morning
You sure have changed since yesterday
Without any warning
And you want me badly
Because you cannot have me
I thought I knew you (whoa)
But I've got a new view (whoa)
I thought I knew you well, oh well
Ooh
On Sunday morning
Without a warning
Sunday morning
I thought I knew you
Sunday morning
Oh you want me badly
You cannot have me
Sunday morning
Sunday morning

i think this songs literal meaning is about a how she used to like someone so much but never got anything out of it, so she moved on.. and once she did, the guy now wants her because he cant have her. its a complete role reversal. it might have some sort of hidden meaning, but i like the obvious better.
@devilicious It was not a mere realization of the role reversal, but it was a new state of mind. The video is portraying irony in that the realization was a moment of great transcendence, but the moment of the memory is shrouded in a mundane Sunday morning, cooking spaghetti.

I love this song soooooo much!! I will now interpret the lyrics.
"Sappy pathetic little me That was the girl I used to be You had me on my knees"
The girl was seriously upset about the ending of the relationship, she just moped around pathetically all the time.
"I'd trade you places any day I'd never thought you could be that way But you looked like me on Sunday"
The girl wished she could switch places with the boy, who seemed to be getting along just fine without her. She couldn't believe how heartless he was being. Then, one day everything changed.
"Oh you came in with the breeze On Sunday morning You sure have changed since yesterday Without any warning I thought I knew you (whoa) I thought I knew you (whoa) I thought I knew you well... so well"
One day, after the girl had finally moved on, he decided to pop back into her life. He seemed to have changed a lot since she saw him last.
"You're trying my shoes on for a change They look so good but fit so strange Out of fashion, so I can't complain"
The boy is now trying to get the girl back, they've switched places. He's the one moping around pathetically now. It kind of amuses the girl to see the karma, but it's also really weird to see him being the sappy one.
"I know who I am, but who are you? You're not looking like you used to You're on the other side of the mirror So nothing's looking quite as clear Thank you for turning on the lights Thank you, now you're the parasite I didn't think you had it in you And now you're looking like I used to!"
The girl has definately moved on and found herself again. She's making fun of the boy who now is acting exactly the way she did after the break up. Instead of acting like he's better off without her he's come crawling back acting like he wants her in his life. The girl sees right through this though. She realizes that he just wants her back because he can't find anyone better. She realized she's much better off without that scumbag.
"Ooh on Sunday morning Without a warning Sunday morning I thought I knew you Sunday morning Ooh you want me badly Cannot have me"
Basically she's saying "too bad loser, you missed out, kiss my *ss, etc."
And that's why I love this song! It's very relatable, in my opinion :)
none of you seem to have truely grasped the whole concept. your focusing on one line, and if it was that basic she wouldnt have written the whole song. she was young when she met this guy and she hadnt developed into the person she was destined to be and then this guy be littled her and made her feel naff, now shes herself finally and didnt let him bother her she sees him now as a stepping stone and shes beyond him now! get it? from the tragic kingdom era most of the lyrics were based around finding ur self and realiseing that guy that made u feel crappy isnt that great and u can do better. it was her get back album at tony :D
@no_expression This song was definitely about him as well as that entire album and it was difficult for the whole band they've said because it was very personal and was difficult for the band and yet it brought them their success. It was a stepping stone for all of them.

Damn, alow artists to change and mature wether you like it or not "Rock Steady" is still thier "true sound" They expressed themselves with ska music on two CDs, if you listen to return of saturn you would notice that the group has most definatly matured into something new, above all Gwen. And if you are a true fan, regardless of your feeling of the new single, you will allow the artists you claim to like to do what music they feel like giving you. Life would be unbareble if artists would contiuously make the same music over and over, how disapointing that would be.
um yah... i just wanna know what this song means... and by the way, as much as i may hate 'hey baby', i stand by no doubt becuse i know it was a growing process 4 them, and wen i really listen, rock steady had meaning to it...simple meaning
I doubt that No Doubt changed their style to make more money, because Rock Steady didn't sell more then Tragic Kingdom. Everybody and their mother owns that CD. They are just experimenting with a new sound.
i love this song. i think its about falling in love with someone for the way they are, and then they go through a total change and decide they like you. well it's too late now, and they're a different person. They think they can come in with the breeze on sunday morning and say hey, i like you! Too bad. And its kind of guilty pleasure, it seems cause of how she says: "and you want me badly, cause you can not have me" I love the vocals on "b r e e z e". Great song, though I agree No Doubt has the right to mature, I think they retrogressed. But you know what? I dont care cause Im a true fan. </3
HEY i forgot about this song....awesome!
I think the song is a lot simpler than yall are making it out to be. In my opinion the song is about a girl giving her boyfriend blowjobs all the time and him never returning the favor because he's against it it someway. then he changes his mind one day and she's surprised.

this song has so many great memories for me...i have no idea what it truly means, but so many significant things have happened in my life while this song was playing....i love it!!!!
I love this song! This is ND's true sound. Fuck "Rocksteady"!
