Blame It On Me Lyrics
Words and Music by Steven Page & Ed Robertson
Here we are again, and we're looking at each other
As if each other were to blame
You think you're so smart, but I've seen you naked
And I'll probably see you naked again
Milli Vanilli told you to blame it on on the rain,
But if you blame it on the rain, tell me what can be gained
If all else fails, you can blame it on me.
Chorus
If all else fails, you can blame it on me.
If all else fails, blame it on me.
If all else fails, you can blame it on me.
Well here we are again, and you're looking at me
Like there's something I'm supposed to say
Forgive me Father, but I've fallen in love
And that's all I have for confession today
Maybe if you asked me on any other given day
I wouldn't have time for you and the games that you play,
But it's all right now, you can blame it on me.
Chorus
Yes, dear, I love you,
But sometimes I think that love's not enough for you
So you want to play mind games
Well that's fine, go ahead; la la la, I can't hear you
Well here we are and you're a hundred thousand miles
away
They say that absence makes the heart grow fungus
I wax poetic while you're waxing your legs
And you say you think there's a traitor among us
If all else fails, you can blame it on me.
Chorus

I think it's about a relationship that the two of them are trying to repair, but they both have an idea of that improvement and both think that they're right (hence "Then you smile again, but you're looking at me Like there's something I'm supposed to say", and the part about mind games)
This makes them kinda distant, further damaging the relationship (see awesome fungus line). With that in mind, the title lyric seems pretty sarcastic/ironic, but at some point, near the end I think, it begins to seem sincere, like the narrator's willing to take the blame for the sake of the relationship.
gosh, that last paragraph was full of Shatner pauses, or preferably, Goldblum pauses. Anyway, I love this song.
nine years???? Wow!! I've only listened to them for almost a year now.
Steven Page for President!!
This song is pretty self explanatory. The two got in a fight and the "you" of the song is needing someone to blame the quarrel on. Steven tells "you" that you can just blame it on him. I've been a full-out BNL fan for 9 years and this is one of my favorites. I love how the flavor changes throughout the song as the moods change.
Besides...this author got the lyrics wrong. The second verse goes: Then you smile again, but you're lookin' at me like there's something I'm s'posed to say, Forgive me Father, but I'm fallin' in love- and that's all I have for Confession today. Maybe if you ask me on any other given day, I wouldn't have time for you, or anything that you say, So right now, you can blame it on me.
Steven Page can't be president, dilhole. He's Canadian. They have a monarchy.
try to understand a light hearted, ironic joke. im quite sure she isnt a serious protester for Steven Page to become President
wow I'm surprised this song hasn't gotten more comments, a song that speaks to me, more now then ever.
I love this song - partly because of the way they play with words (they say that absence makes the heart grow fungus) expectations (I wax poetic while you're waxing your legs) and how they seem to capture a hard to express idea/feeling in so few words (think you're so smart, but I've seen you naked).
BNL is one of the few bands who actually capture the ways and things that I feel myself. Not just the "She's pretty! Song song singing" pop stuff that gets recorded and pushed for singles every day.
I've been listening to BNL for about 9 years myself too. This is still one of my favorite songs as well :)

Chorus If all else fails, you can blame it on me. If all else fails, you can blame it on me. If all else fails, blame it on me. And if all else fails, you can blame it on me.

Chorus
Still not quite right, but closer anyway.
