I think it's about a relationship that the two of them are trying to repair, but they both have an idea of that improvement and both think that they're right

This makes them kinda distant, further damaging the relationship (see awesome fungus line). With that in mind, the title lyric seems pretty sarcastic/ironic, but at some point, near the end I think, it begins to seem sincere, like the narrator's willing to take the blame for the sake of the relationship.
