The Change Lyrics

One hand
Reaches out
And pulls a lost soul from harm
While a thousand more go unspoken for
They say what good have you done
By saving just this one
It's like whispering a prayer
In the fury of a storm

And I hear them saying you'll never change things
And no matter what you do it's still the same thing
But it's not the world that I am changing
I do this so this world will know
That it will not change me

This heart
Still believes
The love and mercy still exist
While all the hatreds rage and so many say
That love is all but pointless in madness such as this
It's like trying to stop a fire
With the moisture from a kiss

And I hear them saying you'll never change things
And no matter what you do it's still the same thing
But it's not the world that I am changing
I do this so this world will know
That it will not change me

As long as one heart still holds on
Then hope is never really gone
I hear them saying you'll never change things
And no matter what you do it's still the same thing
But it's not the world that I am changing
I do this so this world we know
Never changes me

What I do is so
This world will know
That it will not change me

This song really makes me think of all the efforts put into the Attack on America, all of the people that helped clean up and help people out. Thanks everyone!!! We're all Americans.

The first time I heard this song it was Garth singing live on TV. Behind him were photographs and video of the aftermath at the Oklahoma City Bombing. It was very moving and devestating, that was before we called it terrorism.

I think this song has a good moral, that even when people are telling you that you're doing nothing when you help someone, it's best to be optimistic and not let them shape you a pessimist.

This song is about doing the right thing, and never giving up. You can NEVER give up in the face of tragedy, or evil, sadness, and hatred win. When I first heard this song, I thought it was about how no difference is too small, every life saved matters. But that's not quite it. "I do this so, this world will know, that it will not change me." This is where Sept. 11th gets mentioned all the time, because it was then we all experienced it. How many of us stood up and said, "I WILL NOT let you scare me, I WILL NOT let this ruin me." But it applies any time someone needs saving. Powerful, powerful song...
