Suicide Note Pt. 1 Lyrics

Cheap cocaine, a dry inhale, the pills that kill and take the pain away
Diet of life, shelter without, the face that cannot see inside yours and mine
When I'm hiding, when I need it, it lets me breathe
For our handle on this life, I don't believe this time
Would you look at me now?
Can you tell I'm a man?
With these scars on my wrists
To prove I'll try again
Try to die again, try to live through this night
Try to die again
Forever fooling, free and using, sliding down the slide that breaks a will
Mothers angel, getting smarter, how smart are you to regress unfulfilled?
It's a damn shame,
When I'm hiding, when I need it, it lets me breathe
For our handle on this life, I don't believe this time
Would you look at me now?
Can you tell I'm a man?
With these scars on my wrists
To prove I'll try again
Try to die again, try to live through this night
Try to die again

An amazing song, one of my all time favorites. It's one of few Pantera songs you can call Beautiful.

It was written not long after he OD'd on heroin or something and was clinically dead.

This song is the shit. That's one thing you gotta love about Phil, he never candy-coated his lyrics or had a bullshit way to express himself, he said things how they were, from the heart. And yes, he was clinically dead after OD'ing on heroin on-stage.

@Elimination not on stage but after a show - backstage. I think in Dallas (definitely in Texas) there's all sorts of better versions of the story, he od'd on stage was revived at hospital and came back and rocked the show after. Show was over, booted up and went out. EMS revived him(late 90s so maybe adrenaline? I don't know for sure when they started using Narcan to reverse the overdose, but I believe before Narcan(Naloxone) they used adrenaline or something similar). I was never sure this song was about that, makes sense, it's funny...

Yeah, that's right, they said it's gonna be called Body In Blood. I like this song, I always listen to it when I'm having a bad day and it makes me feel better.

I could only agree with Johnny. Fuck you people and stop spamming your arguements. Talk about music and be chill with each other. That's exactly what it should be like.

Anyway, this song just really draws you in... Extremely dark. It shows how dark stories in life can be portrayed as also being really beautiful and self-assuring.

My whole thoughts on this song is about someone (possibly Phil) just coming down off of drugs, at the point where he can't make up his mind about what he should do. The thoughts that came through this person's head were very suicidal (hence, the song name) and he has question boiling in his mind if it would make him better to try and kill himself again or would he even survive the next time it happens? If he did, would anyone be affected? Those are the kinds of thoughts going through his head.

So once you go through this dark-oriented song, then it branches off into a total flurry of rage in Part 2, where the music and vocals go insane. Almost as if you were tricked 'cause the whole mood changes! Very sarcastic and obnoxious, but in a way, his seriousness of questioning is still there. Fucking can't make up his mind! Haha! Very fine progression Pantera left on this world.

Phil has finally gotten off the drugs. He got hooked on oxy when he jumped off a speaker at a concert and jacked up some vertebrae he late had fused.....Once he got hooked on oxy heroin quickly followed...This song shows his desperation and hopelessness he finds himself in now....He tries to live but keeps dying to the drug...He tries to hide tries to keep it together but cant...Everything falls like withering flowers before him....The whole Great Southern Trend Kill is saturated with a a drug addicts cries....Im glad he got clean but the whole addiction destroyed his friendship with DImebag and Vinnie to such a degree he wasnt allowed at the funeral....Suicide Note part 1 is exactly what the title of the song cries

At least the heroin and coke he quit but he still smokes down

Sheesh! Everything's about dope for Pantera. Even so, this is probably one of the best songs ever written. The desperation and helplesness is thick and palpable. It's great to listen to this song during one of your lows when you just want to give in to self-pity.

Lines like "Would you look at me now/Can you tell I'm a man?/With these scars on my wrist/To prove I'll try again/Try to die again" work like magic even for those who don't use cocaine.

This is probably Pantera's best slow song.. And yes most of the time its about dope. But at the time Phil was so Doped up it didn't matter. Cause this was one of the best songs he wrote with Pantera even though the whole album was cut without him in the same studio. This song was clearly wrote about his brush with death, his OD while on tour.. How this fucked him..

@noisicus If there is one good thing about Heroin it is the music it caused. I know that is technically on oxymoron in itself, there is NOTHING good about heroin. However, if you were to take almost any great piece of music(at least before the late 2000s early teens) and really dig deep into the ingredients list you will find an opiate rearing it's ugly head. Nirvana, Megadeth, Soundgarden, STP, Guns N Roses, Pantera, Aerosmith, Rolling Stones, Miles Davis, Ray Charles, Hendrix, Joplin, there's too many. It would probably be easier to list the musicians not affected by it.

I think that this works together with part ii, basically, this is his doubting, trying to convince himself to do it in a fit of depression, then part ii kicks in and its the actual action of suicide. Like the synthesizers too.

actually i think this song phil wrote about his addiction with drugs because he was pronounced dead after an overdose, and i think that might have given him a new outlook on life but who knows, i think he still does drugs.
