That's one thing you gotta love about Phil, he never candy-coated his lyrics or had a bullshit way to express himself, he said things how they were, from the heart.
And yes, he was clinically dead after OD'ing on heroin on-stage.

I think in Dallas (definitely in Texas) there's all sorts of better versions of the story, he od'd on stage was revived at hospital and came back and rocked the show after. Show was over, booted up and went out. EMS revived him(late 90s so maybe adrenaline? I don't know for sure when they started using Narcan to reverse the overdose, but I believe before Narcan(Naloxone) they used adrenaline or something similar). I was never sure this song was about that, makes sense, it's funny...
