The Thunder Rolls Lyrics
Three thirty in the mornin'
Not a soul insight
The city's lookin' like a ghost town
On a moonless summer night
Raindrops on the windshield
There's a storm moving in
He's headin' back from somewhere
That he never should have been
And the thunder rolls
And the thunder rolls
Every light is burnin'
In a house across town
She's pacin' by the telephone
In her faded flannel gown
Askin' for miracle
Hopin' she's not right
Prayin' it's the weather
That's kept him out all night
And the thunder rolls
And the thunder rolls
The thunder rolls
And the lightnin' strikes
Another love grows cold
On a sleepless night
As the storm blows on
Out of control
Deep in her heart
The thunder rolls
She's waitin' by the window
When he pulls into the drive
She rushes out to hold him
Thankful he's alive
But on the wind and rain
A strange new perfume blows
And the lightnin' flashes in her eyes
And he knows that she knows
And the thunder rolls
And the thunder rolls
The thunder rolls
And the lightnin' strikes
Another love grows cold
On a sleepless night
As the storm blows on
Out of control
Deep in her heart
The thunder rolls
Not a soul insight

When I was growing up, this song was always on the radio, and was a local hit. Everyone knew and loved it. Even before I was old enough to understand what it meant, I loved it. And, now that I understand it, I still love it. It is by far one of the best songs Garth Brooks ever did. He is a talented man and is one of the best Country artists known to man in my book, and he always will be.
this is the ONLY country song i will probably EVER like. but this song is cool...it tells a story.. and the video is cool too... its one of the only songs ive heard that has a video to go RIGHT along with it. story songs are pretty cool.
live verse
she runs back down the hallway and through the bedroom door, she reaches for the pistol kept in the dresser drawer, tells the lady in the mirror he won't do this again cause tonight will be the last time she'll wonder were he's been
When I read the lyrics to this song it brought tears to my eyes. It's is so sad that people would cheat on their husband/wife. The song is still pretty good even though it is so sad.
garth used to kick ass now i dont know what he does...
watch your language dude! there are midgets who come on this site! and leave garth alone dude. not everyones perfect, you know!

This is the only country song i actually care for. Very good song as far as country songs, no offense to you country fans out there, but country sucks, lol. My sister is a country fan too tho, so. But yes I do love this song, It's strong, powerful. And thats really something that most country songs aren't.
well TOO BAD. because you DID offend me. and country DOESN'T suck. that's an OPINION. and it's a WRONG opinion. just kiddin. opinions can't be wrong or right. but seriously, keep your opinion to yourself. some people DO like country. like me. i LOVE country.

if it is a opinion then why do you care what they think?

i love garth and i lvoe this song..it is hard to find the meaning just by listening to the song.. but incase u havent figured it out.. some dude is havin an affair and his wife finds out and shoots him
This song is haunting, and scary. It's amazing how anyone could find it in their heart to even think about cheating on their husband or wife, let alone do it.
The extended version of this song (done live) adds even more to the powerful song.... "She runs back down the hallway, Into the bedroom door. She reaches for the pistol kept in the dresser drawer. She tells the lady in the mirror he won't do this again. Cos' tonight will be the last time she'll wonder where he's been. The thunder rolls And the lightnin' strikes Another love grows cold On a sleepless night As the storm blows on Out of control Deep in her heart The thunder rolls..."
this songs meaning is common sense... but the message that garth is stating is not only a current problem in many cases, but also a very powerful one...and it becomes even more powerful when the final verse is added on. many husbands can learn a lesson by this song
