Much Too Young (To Feel This Damn Old) Lyrics
This ol' highway's getting longer
Seems there ain't no end in sight
To sleep would be best, but I just can't afford to rest
I've got to ride in Denver tomorrow night
I called the house but no one answered
For the last two weeks no one's been home
I guess she's through with me, to tell the truth I just can't see
What's kept the woman holding on this long
And the white line's getting longer and the saddle's getting cold
I'm much too young to feel this damn old
All my cards are on the table with no ace left in the hole
I'm much too young to feel this damn old
The competition's getting younger
Tougher broncs, you know I can't recall
The worn out tape of Chris LeDoux, lonely women and bad booze
Seem to be the only friends I've left at all
And the white line's getting longer and the saddle's gettin' cold
I'm much too young to feel this damn old
All my cards are on the table with no ace left in the hole
I'm much too young to feel this damn old
Lord, I'm much too young to feel this damn old
Seems there ain't no end in sight
To sleep would be best, but I just can't afford to rest
I've got to ride in Denver tomorrow night
For the last two weeks no one's been home
I guess she's through with me, to tell the truth I just can't see
What's kept the woman holding on this long
I'm much too young to feel this damn old
All my cards are on the table with no ace left in the hole
I'm much too young to feel this damn old
Tougher broncs, you know I can't recall
The worn out tape of Chris LeDoux, lonely women and bad booze
Seem to be the only friends I've left at all
I'm much too young to feel this damn old
All my cards are on the table with no ace left in the hole
I'm much too young to feel this damn old

"And the white line's getting longer" has nothing to do with drugs. It's rodeo terminology for riding the circuit, "Chasing the white line", i.e. traveling from event to event. In other words, the season seems to be lasting longer. This would be consistent with the other lyrics in this song. So, Kingv99, don't think yourself an idiot, since you were correct.
I know im no cowboy or anything but i just love this song, theres just something about it that makes me shake my head to it.
i love the intro to this song, something about it makes me come alive. i think this song goes past the cowboy theme.
Cool song, man... cool song
I feel like an idiot when reading this but I always thought it was about a truck driver that thad to be away from home for long periods of time for his route. The faster you drive the white lines seem to connect and look longer.
I love this song as well.
Most of it is self explanatory, it's man who rides rodeo but is well passed his prime and is all but forgotten.
It also makes a subtle drug reference with the white lines getting longer in the chorus. At one end it could been the lines in the road, on the other it probably means he is drowning his sorrow in cocaine.
