There must be some misunderstanding
There must be some kind of mistake
I waited in the rain for hours
And you were late
Now it's not like me to say the right thing
But you could've called to let me know
I checked your number twice, don't understand it
So I went home
Well I'd been waiting for this weekend
I thought that maybe we could see a show
Never dreamed I'd have this feeling
Oh but seeing you is believing
That's why I don't know why
You didn't show up that night
There must be some misunderstanding
There must be some kind of mistake
I was waiting in the rain for hours
And you were late
Since then I've been running around trying to find you
I went to the places that we always go
I rang your home but got no answer
Jumped in my car, I went round there
Still don't believe it
He was just leaving
There must be some misunderstanding
There must be some kind of mistake

He could have just checked her Facebook status... Oh, that's right, Zuckerberg wasn't alive back then.

This song is about being stood up for a date. I think its sung in a chronological order. The first verse is initial feeling: 'Maybe she's just running late' Then "But you could've called to let me know I checked your number twice, don't understand it So I went home" Is the point where he realizes that the girl isnt going to show up. Most Obviously however: "That's why I don't know why You didn't show up that night"

This an awesome 80's song with a kind of doo-wop sound. Obviously the song's about the heartbreak and pain some experiences when the person they love and they think they love in return goes out and cheats on him/her.

Sometimes, even when you can see the evidence right before your eyes, you can still find a way to deny it's over. There must be some misunderstanding - because I can't really be seeing her standing me up, cheating on me, and preparing to leave...

I'm happy for you and sad for me. Didn't know I had so many tears in this body. Hoping this is making you happy so this pain will be worth it. So strange not having you even with the limits. Of course wishiing the last year could have worked out the way we hoped. I also wish I could sleep, day 3 with 2 hour or less. A billion million kisses would not have been enough. As always I pray for the very best of everything for you. And, YES, I love you, then, now and always.

Obviously about a guy whose relationship is over, but he's in denial for a while. At first I don't think he knew that it was over but in the end he drives by her house and realizes there is someone else now.

When I hear the song and read the lyrics, I'm not so sure there ever was a relationship. Kind of sounds like the singer had a crush on a woman that he had regular contact with (maybe they ran into each other quite a bit, lived in the same neighborhood, etc.). Over time he built up a relationship in his mind. At some point he worked up the nerve to ask her out and she said yes to be nice or to get rid of him. She really wasn't in to him and may have even been creeped out a bit. At that point he continues to stalk her.

Didn't you notice that near the end the lyrics say: Still don't believe it He was just leaving I think this song is about attraction between a guy and another guy (he and not she was leaving), but now one of them thinks there must have been a misunderstanding...

Every time I hear it I get the impression that it is a song told from a stalker's perspective. If not a stalker then from the perspective of a person infatuated with the other one.

Somewhere Only We Know
Keane
Per the FAQ on Keane's website, Keane's drummer Richard Hughes, stated the following: "We've been asked whether "Somewhere Only We Know" is about a specific place, and Tim has been saying that, for him, or us as individuals, it might be about a geographical space, or a feeling; it can mean something individual to each person, and they can interpret it to a memory of theirs... It's perhaps more of a theme rather than a specific message... Feelings that may be universal, without necessarily being totally specific to us, or a place, or a time..." With the nostalgic sentiment and the overall tone of the song, I think Keane is attempting to express a Portuguese term known as 'saudade', which does not have a direct English translation but roughly means "that which we remember because it is gone."

Zombie
Cranberries, The
"Zombie" is about the ethno-political conflict in Ireland. This is obvious if you know anything of the singer (Dolores O'Riordan)'s Irish heritage and understood the "1916" Easter Rising reference. "Another head hangs lowly Child is slowly taken And the violence caused such silence Who are we mistaken - Another mother's breaking Heart is taking over" Laments the Warrington bomb attacks in which two children were fatally injured on March 23rd, 1993. Twelve year old Tim Parry was taken off life support with permission from his mother after five days in the hospital, virtually braindead. "But you see it's not me It's not my family" References how people who are not directly involved with the violence feel about it. They are "zombies" without sympathy who refuse to take action while others suffer.

@[Kahiara:35260] Actually I think the husband passed away, "She sang for you last night She heard you were calling" Many people say they have felt, heard, or seen their loved ones after they have passed. "Don't be scared now Close your eyes She holds guard tonight Go on forward no remorse Life will take it's course" This is said to the late husband by a third part (never named), who encourages him to pass on. Because life will eventually continue. The phrase "holds guard" refers to the ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wake_(ceremony) ) which is a Christian ceremony held after someone dies. Now it is usually held right after the funeral, but in most celtiic countries the wake is held before the funeral. "She danced with you last night so you will remember All you have shared, a lifetime." This sentence feels as if the only thing it wants to convey is their history together, namely, husband and wife. For the rest it just refers back to the first verse.

Me and Johnny
Matt Paxton
Moyet later described how her song "Goodbye 70's" had been inspired by her disillusionment with how the late-1970s punk scene had turned out, saying, "'Goodbye 70's' is about punk and not caring how you were dressed, and then I discovered that so many of my friends that I'd thought it all really meant something to just saw it as another trend... That's what 'Goodbye 70's' was all about, about how sour the whole thing became."
