Ooh, stop

With your feet on the air and your head on the ground
Try this trick and spin it, yeah (yeah)
Your head will collapse, and there's nothing in it
And you'll ask yourself

Where is my mind?
Where is my mind?
Where is my mind?
Way out in the water, see it swimmin'

I was swimmin' in the Caribbean
Animals were hiding behind the rock
Except the little fish
Bumped into me, I swear he was trying to talk to me, koi-koi

Where is my mind?
Where is my mind?
Where is my mind?
Way out in the water, see it swimmin'

With your feet on the air and your head on the ground
Try this trick and spin it, yeah
Your head will collapse, and there's nothing in it
And you'll ask yourself

Where is my mind?
Where is my mind?
Where is my mind?
Way out in the water, see it swimmin'

With your feet on the air and your head on the ground
Try this trick and spin it, yeah

    Song Meaning

If you dont like where your life is/headed, mix it up. Dont just fuck around and tolerate it, do something about it. "Your head will collapse if there is nothing in it" meaning, if you feel you have no purpose, you will lose your sense of life, and will to change and do things you love. turn your world upside, stir things around, see how it goes. Cause, honestly, what have you got to lose? Animals hiding behind rocks is a metaphor, obviously, as much is everything he says. Make everything hes saying opposite. Animals become people, savages of our world today, businessmen, cut-throats, up in your face trying to use you and luring you with advertisements, etc. The little fish, the people you dont really fuckin know or care to, nor will the rest of the world, are the everyday people. water is land, the beautiful carribbean is your shitty apartment. the true metaphor, which is absolutely amazing, is the fact that this song does that. Spectacular. in the song hes crazy, lost, confused, at the same time, telling you that you need a change if you dont like life as it is now. When said exactly opposite, your life is perfect. The scavengers are gone, away, hiding, but not the cool, chill, honest living person you see everyday. Top 5 all time lyrics. Genius.

Imagine a life where you don't have to really think. Just go tripping through life. This is a song about such an idea.

"That came from me snorkelling in the Caribbean and having this very small fish trying to chase me. I don't know why - I don't know too much about fish behaviour." Frank Black in SELECT, October 1997

Also, I think there is a clear line between where a songwriter got his inspiration from, and what the song is actually about. So, the song may have been inspired by a scuba diving trip, but the meaning of the song can be quite different.

Charles wrote this after going SCUBA diving. My interpretation is about being blown away by the experience of diving to the point that you feel you don't know anything... your head is empty, because you just got blown away by the other world you knew nothing about. With your feet in the air, try spinning your way into recreational diving, like Charles, it will "blow you away".

This verse has always driven me crazy. I've tried to find the correct lyrics for years now and have never quite got there. A while ago I saw Frank Black guest performing with Placebo doing a version of Where Is My Mind. Brian Molko sings the second verse a lot more clearly than Frank ever has and his lyrics are plainly:

"Animals were hiding behind the rocks, Except the little fish, Then he told me East is West And he tried to cry... Where is my mind?"

The East West line sounds pretty close to what Frank sings in the original but the next line still mystifies me - not sure if Brian Molko is doing his own interpretation here or if he got those lyrics from Frank. The mystery continues! And anyway I should probably stop obsessing about it now - if Brian Molko doesn't know the words even when he's sharing the stage with Frank Black then I probably never will either...

Check out the vid on Youtube if you search for user elainalee81 / Pixies, Placebo Where etc...

Son Şansın - Şarkı Sözleri
Hayalperest
This song seemingly tackles the methods of deception those who manipulate others use to get victims to follow their demands, as well as diverting attention away from important issues. They'll also use it as a means to convince people to hate or kill others by pretending acts of terrorism were committed by the enemy when the acts themselves were done by the masters of control to promote discrimination and hate. It also reinforces the idea that these manipulative forces operate in various locations, infiltrating everyday life without detection, and propagate any and everywhere. In general, it highlights the danger of hidden agendas, manipulation, and distraction, serving as a critique of those who exploit chaos and confusion to control and gain power, depicting a cautionary tale against falling into their traps. It encourages us to question the narratives presented to us and remain vigilant against manipulation in various parts of society.

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."
