Despite what any interview says, this song is about the third eye. I'm posting a comment just like this one on every song I hear that I think is. Whether I'm wrong or right. To me, nothing makes more sense. Often times "love songs" are about the third eye. Blatant love songs are obvious. But metaphorical ones like this.. think about it.. "it might be the only way I can show you how it feels to be inside you". Well if you're in outer space watching the world go, you obviously hold a perspective they're not previewed to. I don't think it's the weightlessness. When you find your third eye and actually see it, your eyes will be closed and you will see a blue figure. Obviously black Like space.. Take the song dig for example.. "remind me that we'll always have each other when EVERYTHING else is gone. You will never be without your third eye, your instincts, the true you. |

If you knew the third eye was your way to peace and understanding and can only taste it little by little, it would be quite frustrating. He sings about the third eye a lot. A LOT. "I can almost hear you scream, give me one more peaceful medicated moment" most would think this is about an addiction, as most of his other songs sound like they are. Trust me.. once you are able to decalcify your pineal gland and even begin to use it, that will be your addiction. Try it, you will see. So many artists sing about the pineal. Any song when they mention never being alone because they have "you", and even most love songs that are metaphorically spoken, are about the third eye. Which is why we can all relate to them. | maynard sings abstract yes but there is also a lot of overlooked direct truth aswell. he keeps it vague enough to have it relate to whatever is going on in your life, as all great musicians do. but what makes maynard my favorite, uncontestedly, is that he sings about real things. this song is metaphorical, yes, but hes singing about the life cycle which happens on earth. every religion speaks of it. here, in my opinion hes talking about achieving a higher state of mind, something greater than the clusterfuck we're in. hes talking about what monks call enlightenment. its the ability to use your pineal gland( third eye) to its fullest potential. but us as humans lack spiritual vision and have minimal guidance. so once we get too far down a road, there will be chaos and things will start a new. the brilliant us will try to leave a message behind, to guide the next era. testing our communication...(schism reference) destruction is coming. our science and technology will only protect is for so long. there are plenty of signs, truths to be known. listen to maynard. | |

First of all, allow me to say, it is "optimist". The song is about finding something new about someone, noticing a sudden change in someone, or or being deceived by someone, which repulses you/him. This is why he says things like ignore the smoke. Just act like he never knew, the smoke was never there, he never found out. He's saying to call an optimist because in the situation he is not optimistic. He has no faith in it. People generally jump straight to "drowning" figuratively or metaphorically when someone turns "blue". Truth is, they are turning "blue" because whatever he found out is killing her. Its ruining her in every possible way. Not only for herself but also how he viewed her and now he cant ever look at her the same. The lyrics reference which substaintially agrees with what im saying is that he says "Such a lovely color for you". Basically saying, "Sure, go ahead, great idea." or "Who am I to stop you from doing what you want, I had to find out like this, right?". Basically just letting it be because hes so disgusted he just doesnt care anymore and hes quite sure, pestimistic, that it will not ever be the same between them. When he says, "Mistook their nods for approval", that was actually speaking for her, and she just assumed he was ok with it, or not bothered, and she went and continued. So he ignored how aweful it was, never confronted her, and just smiled like everything was perfect. |

"Your head will collapse if there is nothing in it" meaning, if you feel you have no purpose, you will lose your sense of life, and will to change and do things you love. turn your world upside, stir things around, see how it goes. Cause, honestly, what have you got to lose? Animals hiding behind rocks is a metaphor, obviously, as much is everything he says. Make everything hes saying opposite. Animals become people, savages of our world today, businessmen, cut-throats, up in your face trying to use you and luring you with advertisements, etc. The little fish, the people you dont really fuckin know or care to, nor will the rest of the world, are the everyday people. water is land, the beautiful carribbean is your shitty apartment. the true metaphor, which is absolutely amazing, is the fact that this song does that. Spectacular. in the song hes crazy, lost, confused, at the same time, telling you that you need a change if you dont like life as it is now. When said exactly opposite, your life is perfect. Most people are so easily mislead by these lyrics due to the genre and type of music she usually sings. This song is a great metaphore for an addiction, not a relationship. In the verses, shes talking about how its affecting her, i.e. "You either got it, or you don't - the drug You either stand, or you fall - You control it, or it controls you When your will is broken - (see next line) When it slips from your hand - When youre addicted, you are weak without the drug When there's no time for joking - (see next line) There's a hole in the plan" - When it's no longer entertainment, to use the drug, the plan has been ruined cause thats why you took it in the first place, to have fun. The bridge states this very clearly aswell. i.e. "Oh, you don't mean nothing at all to me No, you don't mean nothing at all to me But you got what it takes to set me free Oh, you could mean everything to me" here she is telling you that it hasnt controlled her, but yet she still loves it, but, she knows it could. you can fill this in with every line and it makes perfect sense, yet her delivery and tone doesnt express this, which makes this song a masterpiece. Metaphorically, rhythmically, and vocally. Well done, Nelly. |

| This song is about how Heroin makes him a different person entirely, and how it made him successful. With lines like "Watch you wave your powers" then "The 'sound' of the waves collide" is like the two liquids combining, the drug, and his blood. "Cruising through the city after hours, with me fusing all our powers, here's to all our dreams..." which goes into "take me one more time, take me one more wave, take me one last ride, im out of my head" clrealy stating that he's high, and the first part, is him doing the drug. Many people believe It's about him bathing a woman, and electrocuting her while doing so. This is a logical interpretation, based by facts, but I think is false. I think its about someone dying off of heroin in his presence. I will give my personal elaborate explanation, line for line. You move like I want to - While intoxited with most narcotics, you will appear to, and move differently, due to your state of mind. To see like your eyes do - Once again, while under the influence of narcotics, most usually have a different persepctive on things as oppose to when sober. We are downstairs where - Most people who do heroin, don't want people knowing, and do it in a reclusive manner, to themselves, stating this line says they are in a comfortable, safe area. No one can see - further explains the previous line. New life breakaway - New life break away, as in you are a new person while under the influence of the drug, different than ever before. Tonight I feel like more - Here could be interpreted two different ways, either make sense the same. 1) He feels like doing more heroin tonight than he normally would, due to the utter ecstasy he's feeling while doing it with her. 2) He feels more intoxited than ever before and he feels, better, and greater than he ever has. Tonight I You make the water warm - Here he is explaining the situation where she heats up the heroin to make it a liquid, preparing to inject it. You taste foreign - The substance is mostly the same as it is doing its job, it something seems funny about it, like the drug has more impurities to it than it normally does when he uses it. And I know you can see The cord breakaway - This was harder to understand and what threw me off at first. When he says "the cord" he is refering to what he use to tie off his arm. 1) It is said later in the song to express more so that he is doing more than usual. 2) He is still saying that he feels more intoxicated than he ever has before. Because tonight I feel like more - The way he sings this line, and most of the song, further indicates the sensation he is feeling. He sings the song, slow and calm, with spiked points, just how the drug acts. Tonight I feel like more - Elaborating on the subject in the previous line. Feel like more - and once again You breathed Then you stopped - If you die from heroin, you dont just, suddenly die as if you were shot in the head, or eletrocuted down in seconds. You slowly fade away and die, as your heart stops beating. The way he sings these things express this very much. I breathed then dried you off - Here he states, that he is still alive himself. Drying her off has nothing to do with being wet, litterally, but it's a metaphore saying he eliminated the traces of the drug in her system so they would not find out that's how she died, to cover his tracks. Though, essentially he murdered her deliberately. And tonight I feel like more - 1) He feels like using more of the drug because he knows that she will follow him and do it too, knowing she cannot handle it. 2) He feels like more, because of the rush he got from killing her, and having the balls to do it. Tonight - He says this last, indicating that he planned it. Tonight, he wanted to do this. This song is great and one of my favorites, because of how discrete the lyrics are, and goes so well with what hes talking about. They clash well, and his performance, is amazing. This is my opinon, and makes the most sense to me. I do elaborate explanations on many songs that I like.
