The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.
She waits for me at night
She waits for me in silence
She gives me all her tenderness
And takes away my pain
And so far she hasn't run
Though I swear she's had her moments
She still believes in miracles
While others cry in vain
It's all about soul
It's all about faith and a deeper devotion
It's all about soul
'Cause under the love is a stronger emotion
She's got to be strong
'Cause so many things getting out of control
Should drive her away, so why does she stay?
It's all about soul
She turns to me sometimes
And she asks me what I'm dreaming
And I realize I must have gone
A million miles away
And I ask her how she knew
To reach out for me at that moment
And she smiles because it's understood
There are no words to say
It's all about soul
It's all about knowing what someone is feeling
The woman's got soul
The power of love and the power of healing
This life isn't fair
It's gonna get dark, it's gonna get cold
You've got to get tough, but that ain't enough
It's all about soul
Ah
Na-na-na-na-na-na-na (oh-oh-oh)
It's all about soul
Na-na-na-na-na-na-na
Yes, it is
Na-na-na-na-na-na-na (oh-oh-oh)
It's all about soul
Na-na-na-na-na-na-na
There are people who have lost
Every trace of human kindness
There are many who have fallen
There are some who still survive
Ah, she comes to me at night
And she tells me her desires
And she gives me all the love I need
To keep my faith alive
It's all about soul
It's all about joy that comes out of sorrow
It's all about soul
Who's standing now, who's standing tomorrow
You've got to be hard
As hard as the rock in that old rock 'n' roll
But that's only part, you know in your heart
It's all about soul
Oh, yeah
Na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na (oh-oh-oh)
It's all about soul
Na-na-na-na-na-na-na
Yes, it is
Na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na (oh-oh-oh)
All about soul

@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday".
I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.
Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988.
"'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it."
"There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."

“Blue” is a song about a love that is persisting in the discomfort of the person experiencing the emotion. Ed Sheeran reflects on love lost, and although he wishes his former partner find happiness, he cannot but admit his feelings are still very much there. He expresses the realization that he might never find another on this stringed instrumental by Aaron Dessner.
I love this song so much! Billy Joel sends such a great message. It's all about soul.
my partner says its about me and him and thats funny cause hes not an emotional guy and ive seen him cry when this song plays and he thinks im not looking.xox
I don't know why no-one has mentioned anything about this song yet....I guess because it's pretty straightforward!! I think it's true - everything is all about soul. And when you know someone well enough to know their thoughts then you know their soul. I love this song.
This has always been the song I listen to when I feel like I need to try to help fix things in one of my guy friends' lives. There's something about the strength of a woman that they'll never be able to name or place but that they'll always somehow need. Kudos for Billy, for figuring out the words to explain the quiet steadiness of the female of the species.
All About Soul refers to the purity of heart and the unwillingness to go down emotionally.
I always find this song particularly sad, because I think he wrote it for Christie Brinkley, saying how her strengths and soul have made his life complete...
and then she goes off and marries some other guy.
@MithrandirBo I thought so too. But in Concert in Raleigh NC, and probably other places, too, he said Christie thought it was about her, but it was about someone else. And he was mildly gleeful about it.
wow,if i ever marry my current boyfriend this is our wedding song. he sings it to me often, for 7 years he went through a hard time he had no faith,no hope and he says i dragged him through it i made him believe in love even when others told me he was a lost cause.there was times it was hard and i never gave up i never ran and i wont. he also says i havnt been harden by it or my not so grand life and im not selfish or hating so he says the part where it says (there are some who still remain )thats me, and everything i do i do with soul and truth .
