I'm never told that I am pretty
I'm never told that I am kind
And my soul burns now with fire
Deep inside

I want to become brave and courageous
Not buried in self-pity of my own
Ashamed and alone from all
That's been done to me
It's not my fault I remind myself

You say you don't be afraid
But I feel afraid
You say you don't laugh or cry
But I show emotion
You say food will be on the table
And birds in the sky
But I'm hungry
So hungry
And it's cloudy outside

You never loved me like a daughter
You never even loved yourself
And now you treat me like a burden
Just another object on your shelf

I want you to know that I love you
And this pain that I carry's not my own
Ashamed and alone
From all that's been done to you
It's not your fault
I remind myself

No matter what I've done
Or is done to me
Nothing unforgivable
Or unable to be set free

I first saw this song on Z-TV about five years ago, never heard form it again, and then made my sister find it on WinMX. ^_^ I love this song. (Though the lyrics seem to be a bit off... maybe my ears need tuning.)

It's about a girl/woman/female who is just beginning to come to terms with her past. It really breaks at the bridge:

"No matter what I've done/Or is done to me/Nothing is unforgivable/Or unable to be set free..."

    And... yeah.

This song is again about a girl being abused by her father. It's about her coming to terms with her father, knowing its not totally his fault that he did the things that he did to her. Tiffany actually wrote this song after recieving a letter from a young girl, similar to damaged.

That makes sense. I think the message in this one is more obvious though. In Damaged, it sounds like she's mixing it with a message about a harmful relationship - but not an incestuous one. Maybe. That's my take.

I don't know if anyone wants to go here, but I really think this song is about her relationship with God, and how that relationship will provide all of the things that relationships with other people can't.

There is a verse in the bible that says "look at the robins, they do not worry about what they will eat the next day. If I provide for the robins think of how much I will provide for you, for I love you more." That's a rough paraphrase but that's what I think of when I hear the chorus. It's about struggling to have faith that God will provide for all of your needs. That's how I've interpreted it, cause I can't argue with the author though.

    I really like this song.

Holiday
Bee Gees
@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday". I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.

I Can't Go To Sleep
Wu-Tang Clan
This song is written as the perspective of the boys in the street, as a whole, and what path they are going to choose as they get older and grow into men. (This is why the music video takes place in an orphanage.) The seen, and unseen collective suffering is imbedded in the boys’ mind, consciously or subconsciously, and is haunting them. Which path will the boys choose? Issac Hayes is the voice of reason, maybe God, the angel on his shoulder, or the voice of his forefathers from beyond the grave who can see the big picture and are pleading with the boys not to continue the violence and pattern of killing their brothers, but to rise above. The most beautiful song and has so many levels. Racism towards African Americans in America would not exist if everyone sat down and listened to this song and understood the history behind the words. The power, fear, pleading in RZA and Ghostface voices are genuine and powerful. Issac Hayes’ strong voice makes the perfect strong father figure, who is possibly from beyond the grave.

Amazing
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran tells a story of unsuccessfully trying to feel “Amazing.” This track is about the being weighed down by emotional stress despite valiant attempts to find some positivity in the situation. This track was written by Ed Sheeran from the perspective of his friend. From the track, we see this person fall deeper into the negative thoughts and slide further down the path of mental torment with every lyric.
