Never was a cornflake girl
Thought that was a good solution
Hangin' with the raisin girls
She's gone to the other side
Givin' us a yo-heave-ho
Things are getting kind of gross
And I go at sleepy time
This is not really
This, a-this, a-this is not really happening

You bet your life it is
You bet your life it is
Oh, honey, you bet your life it's a
Peel out the watchword
Just peel out the watchword

She knows what's going on
Seems we got a cheaper feel now
All the sweet tears are gone
Gone to the other side
With my encyclopedia
They musta paid her a nice price
She's puttin' on her string bean love
This is not really
This, this, this is not really happening

You bet your life it is
You bet your life it is
Oh, honey, you bet your life it's a
Peel out the watchword
Just peel out the watchword

Never was a cornflake girl
Thought that was a good solution

Rabbit, where'd you put the keys, girl?
Rabbit, where'd you put the keys, girl? (Uh-huh)
Rabbit, where'd you put the keys? (Oh, yeah)
Rabbit, where'd you put the keys?
Where'd you put the keys, girl?

And the man with the golden gun
Thinks he knows so much
Thinks he knows so much, yeah
And the man with the golden gun
Thinks he knows so much
Thinks he knows so much, yeah
And the man with the golden gun
Thinks he knows so much
Thinks he knows so much, yeah
And the man with the golden gun
Thinks he knows so much
Thinks he knows so much, yeah, yeah

Rabbit, where'd you put the keys, girl? (Oh, yes)
Rabbit, where'd you put the keys, girl? (Oh, this time)
Rabbit, where'd you put the keys? (Oh, yeah)
Rabbit, where'd you put the keys, girl?

To me (this is just my opinion), it's about a two girls, who were best friends. But one has gone to the other side (Cornflake girls), and one is left behind. And their friendship is ruined. And so many brutal and sick things are happening, and you think to yourself, "This is not really happening"-- but it is. And your parents, and the principal, and the teacher are just a metaphor for one person (and the man with the golden gun), and this "man with the golden gun" thinks that it is just a silly little fight, and no one is really getting hurt.

Like a lot of the other comments are saying, I think this mainly about voyeurism. If the song was about his girlfriend, then why would he use the word spy. If you are a spy it means you shouldn't be caught, that is kind of the whole point, and if you are a voyeur, the whole point of the pleasure you get from it, is the fact that the other people don't know you are watching them. See a bit of a connection there?

Both as a standalone and as part of the DSOTS album, you can take this lyric as read. As a matter of public record, Jourgensen's drug intake was legendary even in the 1980s. By the late 90s, in his own words, he was grappling with massive addiction issues and had lost almost everything: friends, spouse, money and had nearly died more than once. "Dark Side of the Spoon" is a both funny & sad title for an album made by a musical genius who was losing the plot; and this song is a message to his fans & friends saying he knows it. It's painful to listen to so I'm glad the "Keith Richards of industrial metals" wised up and cleaned up. Well done sir.

@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday". I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.
