You wanted to be weightless you didn't want to wait...
we are the sad sad people
those scared scared scared scared eyes
insane unseen on island
inside inside out minds

un-being dead
isn't being alive
what's wrong with the air,
what's wrong with the air
what's wrong with the air,
what's wrong with the air?

the red line when the sky ends
the pretty ugly lives
can't take your car to heaven
can't take god for a drive

un-being dead
isn't being alive

what's wrong with the air,
what's wrong with the air,
what's wrong with the air,
what's wrong with the air?
what's wrong with the air
what's wrong with the sky
what's wrong with your eyes?
what's wrong with the air
what's wrong with the sky?
around you, around you...

in mourning for the morning,
you laughed yourself into the afternoon
you thought was endless
you wanted to be weightless

unbeing dead
isn't being alive
what's wrong with the air,
what's wrong with the air,
what's wrong with the air,
what's wrong with the air?
what's wrong with the air
what's wrong with the sky?
what's wrong with your eyes?
what's wrong with the air?
what's wrong with the sky?

around you, around you...
you wanted to be weightless you didn't want to wait
you wanted to be weightless you didn't want to wait
you wanted to be brainless you didn't want to think
you wanted to be shameless you didn't want to want to

Greed seems to be in there, though I think that the song is trying to touch upon 'environment song' a bit. I may be wrong here, but this is what I gather from it.

    1. The song / chorus is: "What's wrong with the air?" (Okay, simple thinking, but sometimes that's what it is. Example: "I Love you" usually means "I Love you". "She's got Legs" is about a girl that's "got" sexy Legs.
    2. The "island" mentioned can be Earth or 'you'.
    3. "The red line when the sky ends" - the horizon is mentioned in many environmental songs - I realize I am 'pulling' what I can from the song, but the lyrics are quite vague.
    4. "Can't take your Car to heaven". #1 or #2 polluter (is that a word?) are cars.
"Can't take God for a drive" - again reaching for something in the lyrics, but a lot of environmental songs mention how we can't rely on 'God' (as so many people claim, "God will take care of us, so do... whatever." (Even the ozzy osbourne song 'dreamer' mentions something to this effect). 5&aHalf. "In Mourning for the morning." This can easily be 'regret' - but you would be mourning for yourself or something else - simply the morning itself, most every day... if it were between regret and our every day mornings coming to life, I would chose the latter on this.
    5. "Those scared eyes" - Not talking about heart-broken or such, but scared of what is going to happen.
    6. "You wanted to be brainless, you didn't want to think." - this is 1 of the biggest things with people that refuse to recycle, use clean products, consider, etc... for their and others surroundings. We even hear them bark, "Look, I don't want to think about it! Okay? Just let me live my life." (brainless).
        • Again, I may be way off, but that is what I get from the song - again, very vague lyrics. (Members of Frente, how about a hint!) :)

Standing On The Edge Of Summer
Thursday
In regards to the meaning of this song: Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.” That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.

Fast Car
Tracy Chapman
"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him. There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.

Cajun Girl
Little Feat
Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

I Can't Go To Sleep
Wu-Tang Clan
This song is written as the perspective of the boys in the street, as a whole, and what path they are going to choose as they get older and grow into men. (This is why the music video takes place in an orphanage.) The seen, and unseen collective suffering is imbedded in the boys’ mind, consciously or subconsciously, and is haunting them. Which path will the boys choose? Issac Hayes is the voice of reason, maybe God, the angel on his shoulder, or the voice of his forefathers from beyond the grave who can see the big picture and are pleading with the boys not to continue the violence and pattern of killing their brothers, but to rise above. The most beautiful song and has so many levels. Racism towards African Americans in America would not exist if everyone sat down and listened to this song and understood the history behind the words. The power, fear, pleading in RZA and Ghostface voices are genuine and powerful. Issac Hayes’ strong voice makes the perfect strong father figure, who is possibly from beyond the grave.

Magical
Ed Sheeran
How would you describe the feeling of being in love? For Ed Sheeran, the word is “Magical.” in HIS three-minute album opener, he makes an attempt to capture the beauty and delicacy of true love with words. He describes the magic of it all over a bright Pop song produced by Aaron Dessner.
