I always thought this song had a religious overtone. I am not a very religious person, but here me out on this Breakdown:

This would certainly prove to be the most Interesting/Compelling take on the song!<br /> <br /> For awhile I was thinking Happy Jack was the beach itself - The kids "couldn't stop Jack, or the waters lapping" (trying to build sandcastles that would always dissolved) and riding on him and trying to hurt him (digging in the sand, riding a "furry donkey" on him, etc.), butcha never know!

I always felt this song was about children being hurtful doing painful things to one another and telling lies to not get into trouble. It's about growing up. It's a message to children and adults that don't let anyone take away your happiness. If you come across mean people forget about them, just keep moving forward and live happily in your own world. That is what Jack is doing and just like you can never stop the waters from lapping, because they just keep going and going, then for sure you be like the waters and keep on rolling through life....
To me, this song is about doing your own thing, and ignoring others who get in your way.

You see that....ISLE OF MAN, That's where I'm from, that's where I live. I love this song. Apparently my mate's dad was mates with a few guys from the who, apparently it's about him....but I highly doubt that. I would not go near the sands on the Isle of Man...we have all Sellafield waste coming our way. Aaaaaanyway, I just love this song. I think it's quite depressing in a way, but also inspiring.
heh, this song is in an H2 commercial now. Its a good use of the song in my opinion. The idea of the commercial and song go very well together.
