Take It Like A Man Lyrics
When you won't go along
Some will feel like you can't find your way
Heaven knows
Heaven knows I've seen it all before
Now don't get me wrong
I've seen many a life gone astray
When someone goes
All your bows won't make it any better so let it go
Shut up and take it like a man
You need us to get a life
For your own good we'll take you by the hand
'Cause you need a little more
Maybe no one will say it
Maybe no one's aware it goes on
All I know
All I know it's like going off the deep end
Could you make a decision?
Could you think for yourself and go on?
Everyone knows
Everyone knows you've got to fit into the mainstream so save your woes
Close your eyes
Look away now
Make believe while you can
So you'd best go along
Don't let on if you can't find your way
Many more
Many more do it for you
Because heaven knows
Heaven knows it's like playing with fire
Your life's a throw
Some will feel like you can't find your way
Heaven knows
Heaven knows I've seen it all before
Now don't get me wrong
I've seen many a life gone astray
When someone goes
All your bows won't make it any better so let it go
You need us to get a life
For your own good we'll take you by the hand
'Cause you need a little more
Maybe no one's aware it goes on
All I know
All I know it's like going off the deep end
Could you make a decision?
Could you think for yourself and go on?
Everyone knows
Everyone knows you've got to fit into the mainstream so save your woes
Look away now
Make believe while you can
So you'd best go along
Don't let on if you can't find your way
Many more
Many more do it for you
Because heaven knows
Heaven knows it's like playing with fire
Your life's a throw

Nah, I think the song is saying that if you're not strong enough to do your own thing then you should just go along with everyone else.
"Don't let on if you can't find your way"
That's the line that makes me think that.
Very underrated song. Probably my favorite on the Ignition album.
I think this song is completely sarcastic.
I mean... look at the band--they've never really felt the need to fit in the mainstream. To me, this song is about all those who lie to themselves about who they are, especially when coupled with the lines "don't let on if you can't find your way," "Close your eyes, look away now, make believe while you can." It is also, in turn, very cynical and condescending in tone as seen through lines such as, "for your own good we'll take you by the hand," which makes me think of a child being led across the street, or a crowded room. Not a very strong image, hence the point of the song.
People are always going to think they know what's best for you, but you and God only knows. Do what you feel is right for you, and not for some else, because everyone is different. Don't follow the pack, but follow your own path, the path that's right for you, for only you and God knows.
Very similar themewise to Tool's "Opiate", I think. It's about abuse of power, trying to control someone, or being controlled.
I hate it when I receive advice I didn't ask for. Great song.
"Everyone knows you've got to fit into the mainstream so save your woes"
This line explains it all... It's about how in order to get ahead you have to be like everyone else and do what the media says. Obviously, that's been proven not true by none other than the band, but yeah... Early work.
Man, I really love Ignition.
the song is about welfare. and, yes, it's sarcastic.
