The State We're In Lyrics
I've been workin' baby for too long now
Just wanna get next to you boy
I've been searchin' baby, a way to tell you how
Gotta get through to you boy
Never said it was sunshine but you took it all of the time
Never said it was sunshine but you took it all of the time
All of the time, all of the time, all of the time
You took it all of the time
There's no escaping now
Let me show you how
What it feels to be true
I've been workin' baby for too long now
Just wanna get next to you boy
I've been searchin' baby, a way to tell you how
Gotta get through to you boy
Never said it was sunshine but you took it all of the time
Never said it was sunshine but you took it all of the time
All of the time, all of the time, all of the time
You took it all of the time
There's no escaping now
Let me show you how
What it feels to be true
There's no escaping now
Let me show you how
What it feels to be true
I've been workin' baby for too long now
I've been searchin' baby, a way to tell you how

The whoa! of this song (in my opinion) is provided by British chanteusse Beth Orton. Beth is a frequent Chemical Brothers collaborator, providing vocals for "Alive Alone" and "Where Do I Begin" on previous albums. If you like this I'd recommend her solo material - it has more of an acoustic/folky sound to it, but combined with stripped-down electronic beats. Anyways brilliant song, a great merger of Orton's voice and the Chemical Brothers beats.
Yeah, I'm pretty sure it's about acid.
The lyrics seem very open for interpretation. Seems to be definitely a song about relationships and making a commitment to someone, being true to your feelings. I like the line "never said it was sunshine, but you took it all of the time", of course sunsine is already a beautiful thing, but I wonder if its a slight reference to sunshine acid, like some of the best ever created.
I think that this song is definently about a relationship. The workin, ect, ect, part is just wanting to be with your bf/gf. Now, i think that it is about a relationship where they don't hide anything or keep secrets, thus an "ideal" relationship. "Never said it was sunshine, but you took it all the time" is saying that the truth isn't allways good (sunshine = good!) but you took it anyways. Then the next part is just showing how good it accually feels to be truthful with your gf/bf.
well the other night i listened to the ending of this song like a million times cuz it was cool. this song is rele wuttever the listenr is feeling but sunshine is is sunshine acid n im pretty sure they had that in mind when they wrote this. but wut they were thinking isnt always what they want the song to mean when you listen
a girl and her boy tripping together. the sunshine reference is most definitely acid. so this boy is probably not taking the best acid. also, sometimes it's pretty hard to get through to people who are tripping all the time.
cheerse
